Baby Sussex Already Broke This Royal Record, Beating Out Prince George and Princess Charlotte

It’s not fair to draw comparisons between the royal cousins – after all, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children have vastly different destinies than the unborn child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. For one thing, Prince George is third in line to the throne and will most likely rule as the United Kingdom one day. But even though he’ll be the King, there’s one important way that Baby Sussex is even more famous than his or her cousins.

Royal family fans get extra excited whenever there’s a new baby on the way. But for some reason, they’re especially ecstatic over the prospect of the offspring of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Is it because Harry and Meghan are quickly becoming the more popular royal couple? Because of the possibility the baby could have red hair? The reason is unclear. But one thing’s for sure: this royal baby is going to make some people lots of money.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t finding out the gender

With modern technology and testing methods, finding out a baby’s gender early in the pregnancy is common. But despite how easy it is to find out, many couples are deciding to wait and be surprised. This practice carried over to Prince William and Kate Middleton, who didn’t find out what gender they were having with any of their three kids. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are also waiting until delivery day to find out the baby’s gender.

The one thing we know so far? The baby is growing on schedule and might even be big. Sources speculate that Meghan Markle might be due sooner than expected (no official due date was announced, but the baby is expected in late April or early May). For now, the couple decorated the nursery in neutral tones that will be appropriate for a boy or a girl.

Baby Sussex already broke this record

Placing bets on the royal baby – for birth weight, gender, date and time – dates back centuries, probably even before records were kept. In keeping with this tradition, people have been betting money on recent royal births, too. They bet on Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Bettors spent a total of $3.8 million (£3 million) betting on their births.

However, everyone is much more interested in the details of Baby Sussex. According to the Mirror, bookies are expecting more than $10.3 million (£8 million) worth of bets on the newest member of the royal family.

The bets are in, and so far, the latest odds are 1/1 for a boy and 8/11 for a girl. As for the name, 15% of bettors believe the child will be named Diana if it’s a girl. Other top contenders for girl names include Victoria, Alice, and Elizabeth. For a boy, naming bets are common for Albert, Arthur, and James.

Do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a gender preference?

While they’ll certainly be happy with any gender, Prince Harry already let it slip that he’s hoping for a baby daughter. When a fan shouted out that they hoped it was a girl, Prince Harry responded, “So do I!”

Fans are convinced that Prince Harry will honor his late mother Princess Diana in some way if the baby is a girl. We’ll all know the answer soon.
