In The Bachelor Season 22 finale, Luyendyk got down on one knee and proposed to Kufrin. Then two months later, the former race car driver realized he made the wrong choice and broke up with Kufrin in an uncomfortable unedited scene. Then at the After the Finale Rose special, Luyendyk proposed to his runner-up, Burnham. Meanwhile, Kufrin became the next bachelorette.

In an interview with GQ, Luyendyk explained why he chose to get engaged with Kufrin in The Bachelor finale. “I felt like I was trying to be logical. I tried to think like, ‘OK, I know who Becca is, and she’s a great person,” he said at the time. “In the moment, I felt like I was making the right choice.”

The former bachelor also explained why he had a change of heart and decided to go after his runner-up. Apparently, everything changed after Luyendyk contacted Burnham on New Years’ Eve. “As soon as I heard her voice, I knew that I had to end things with Becca,” he said.

Then, in the end, Luyendyk confirmed he made the right decision. “The fact is, I’m really happy with Lauren,” he told GQ. “So for me, it was all worth it.”
