‘The Bachelor’ Star Colton Underwood Defends Hannah B.’s Choice to Keep Jed Wyatt on the Show

Season 15 of The Bachelorette has had its fair share of ups and downs. The drama has been real — Luke P. has been casting one of the biggest shadows across the show, of course, with his misogynistic outlook. But he’s not alone — Jed Wyatt can be lumped among those who might not be on the show “for the right reasons.”

In fact, controversy has also been focused on Jed’s girlfriend situation back home. Ever since that revelation, fans have been wondering why Hannah B. would keep Jed around — but Colton Underwood has come to her defense.

Jed Wyatt’s big lie

In a shocking reveal, musician Haley Stevens came forward to inform the world that she and Jed Wyatt were still dating when Wyatt flew out to join the cast of The Bachelorette. In an interview with People, Stevens let it all out.

“We spent the night together the night before he headed to L.A. He told me [the show] was just an obstacle and we’d be stronger on the other side because of it,” Stevens told People.

Stevens went on to add, “He told me [early on] that he had applied. He said, ‘It’s probably not going to happen, but it’s a huge opportunity. I’m only doing this for my music.’ He only did it for his career. He wanted a platform. He kept telling me, ‘I don’t want my dad to have to help me pay rent anymore.’ He said he only wanted to be top five … to be a major player so that it would be beneficial.”

However, according to Stevens, Jed ghosted her once he returned from the show — she had to confront him about it all. A pretty scummy move.

“Everything in me wants to believe that he meant everything he said and got caught up in [the show],” she says. “I don’t believe he’s a terrible person, but it’s a terrible situation. And part of me thinks I was the backup plan and he wanted me to be here in case it didn’t work out. I feel 100% betrayed,” said Stevens.

An uncomfortable hometown

Things were increasingly uncomfortable for Hannah B during her visit to Jed Wyatt’s hometown. The Bachelorette star tried to make nice with Jed’s family, but there was palpable tension in the air throughout the entire visit.

During her visit to Jed’s home, Jed’s mother, Gina, told Hannah B., “I wouldn’t have felt that way before just because he’s a musician. You don’t get a diploma to be a musician. So Jed’s had to have jobs and try to create time and space to do his music. It’s his heart and it’s his soul so–he couldn’t go to work full-time and do music. So his path is different, it’s very different.”

Gina went on to say that she didn’t feel Jed was ready to be engaged to Hannah — and Jed’s sister seemed to echo the notion as well. “I’m very protective over Jed and making music makes him so happy and honestly, like, him potentially falling in love with you, I’m like, I’m not sure that it’s a good thing,” said Jed’s sister.

Colton Underwood defends Hannah’s choice

Former Bachelor star Colton Underwood defended Hannah B.’s choice to keep Jed Wyatt around as long as she has.

“It’s hard. When you’re in the moment and you’re in the position like Hannah and I were as the leads, you almost have blinders on to any external distractions in that relationship, because you just, you don’t really think about it. You don’t think, ‘Oh, maybe Jed has a girlfriend back at home,’” explained Underwood to Us Weekly.

He went on to add, “You don’t see red flags when you’re dating 30 people. You’re focused on a lot of other things and you’re producing a show. You’re putting a show on. You already have enough things to worry about that that shouldn’t even be a thought in the back of your mind.”
