‘Bachelor in Paradise’: Dean Unglert Once Called ‘Bachelor’ Nation Relationships ‘Fake’ and ‘Contrived’
Bachelor in Paradise has proven to be a wild ride already, as both love and heartbreak are in the air. And a ton of drama has already occurred with Caelynn Miller-Keyes, who was originally a contestant on Colton Underwood’s season. While Miller-Keyes arrived in Paradise with a bone to pick with Blake Horstmann, her attention and attitude quickly turned around once Dean Unglert entered the beach. Unfortunately, Unglert has plenty of baggage of his own from past experiences within Bachelor Nation.
There are still plenty of unknowns regarding Unglert and Miller-Keyes, but Unglert has discussed how he feels about relationships on the show in the past. And it seems he thinks many of them are totally fake. Here’s what he said during an interview.
[Spoilers ahead for Bachelor in Paradise]
Dean Unglert recently broke Caelynn Miller-Keyes’ heart in Paradise
Miller-Keyes was warned that Unglert would come along and break her heart, but she pursued him anyway. Unfortunately, just as she was starting to believe that she could reign him in, he pulled back. Reality TV World recaps that on Miller-Keyes’ birthday, Unglert pulled her aside to let her know that after Paradise, they’d never work out and she’d hate being his girlfriend.
“I know I won’t be able to get where you would need me to be by the end of this. Wholeheartedly, I know I won’t be able to get there,” Unglert told Miller-Keyes. He then added, “I think you deserve a guy who is 100% gung-ho jumping into a relationship with you. … I just think you deserve someone better than me, to be completely honest.” Miller-Keyes didn’t have too much to say to Unglert, as she knew he made his decision. With that, he left Paradise and was taped crying in the van he abandoned Mexico in.
He said he thinks relationships within Bachelor Nation are fake
Prior to this season of Paradise, Unglert spoke with Access regarding how he really feels about Bachelor Nation — and his feelings remain quite bleak. As fans know, Unglert was caught up in a love triangle on another season of Paradise that involved Kristina Schulman. And since that relationship explosively ended, it seems Unglert was planning on keeping his distance romantically from anyone having to do with the shows.
As Unglert told Access, “None of these Bachelor relationships are real, not a single one of them.” And while he admits that the marriages are real, he called the relationships where people are just dating completely “contrived.” Even his own relationships didn’t feel totally genuine due to the reality TV circumstances. “There was a noticeable difference between how someone was acting when the cameras were on and when the cameras were off,” Unglert continued.
Will Unglert come back to win Miller-Keyes’ heart?
During the Access interview, Unglert claimed he would never date another person from any of the Bachelor shows again — but we know he does, in fact, come back to Paradise to win Miller-Keyes back. According to Reality TV World, Unglert returns to the show as Miller-Keyes is getting close with Connor Saeli. While Miller-Keyes isn’t sure what romance she wants to pursue, she ends up leaving Paradise with Unglert.
Now, it seems there’s plenty of evidence that the couple is actually together post-Paradise. Refinery29 notes they had matching Instagram posts showing European travels, though Miller-Keyes took hers down as to not raise suspicion. If they are, in fact, traveling together, this would align well with what Unglert has in mind for his life, too — so perhaps they really are the perfect couple. Only time will tell if they really do make it together as a romantic pair.
