‘Bachelor In Paradise’: Is Derek Peth Being Considered For ‘The Bachelor’?

Derek Peth has been attached to Demi Burnett since the beginning of this season of Bachelor In Paradise. Unfortunately for Peth, he’s not the only one in the picture. Burnett’s been communicative about the fact that she’s been dating a woman back in Los Angeles.

Two episodes ago, Burnett told Peth that she’s really been missing the woman she was seeing prior to Paradise.

“I’m so confused,” she told Peth. “I have this girl that I can’t stop thinking about and then I have you, an amazing guy, in front of me that has blown my mind with how great of a person you are. And I’m trying to figure it out, but right now I’m just really torn.”

Peth, as he has been consistently in his conversations with Burnett, listened with an open mind and open heart. He was, of course, also hurt to learn Burnett had strong feelings for someone in addition to him.

“The hardest part about this is knowing that there’s someone else who’s pulling on her emotions,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who this other person is, right? It’s just somebody else who Demi has an emotional connection to. I’m super hopeful that it just doesn’t end.”

As of the most recent episode, Kristian Haggerty, the woman Burnett’s been missing, has joined the Paradise cast.

Why Derek Peth would make a great Bachelor

Peth has shown that he’s one of the more mature cast members on this season of Bachelor In Paradise. He’s nonjudgemental, he’s a great listener, he’s a good communicator, he’s kind, and he just seems to be an all-around solid guy.

The Bachelor franchise loves to cast someone who’s recently experienced great heartbreak and who’s also deeply adored by Bachelor Nation. Peth and Burnett make a wonderful couple, but it’s pretty obvious that Burnett probably ends up with her LA girlfriend. In one of the first Bachelor In Paradise previews, we saw Burnett say she could see herself spending the rest of her life with an unnamed woman. So things aren’t looking great for Peth, at least in terms of his relationship with Burnett.

But just because his relationship didn’t work out with Burnett doesn’t mean Peth won’t find love via reality TV in the future.

So far, Bachelor In Paradise fans are loving Peth. Sure, he’s older and he first appeared on the franchise back in 2016, but it’s not like this would be the first time The Bachelor would be someone from a long-ago season (see: Arie Luyendyk Jr.).

Who’s in the running for ‘The Bachelor’?

The franchise may want to cast someone from a current season to keep things fresh. In that case, the three names that have been tossed around are: Mike Johnson, Peter Weber, and Tyler Cameron.

Mike Johnson would be the franchise’s first black Bachelor (it’s about time). He won Bachelor Nation over with his big smile and sweet personality. He’s currently looking for love on Paradise, but if things don’t work out for him in Mexico, he’d also be a great choice for The Bachelor.

We haven’t heard much from Peter Weber since his departure from The Bachelorette, but he’s very popular with fans, too. He seems sweet, like he loves hard, but he also feels similar to Bachelors of years past.

And Cameron’s as good as out with his budding Gigi Hadid romance.

We’ll have to wait and see who the next Bachelor will be. Chris Harrison has said that the announcement’s been delayed due to Bachelor In Paradise, so we’re putting our money on the next lead coming from the Paradise pool.
