‘Bachelor in Paradise’: Peter Weber Is the New Bachelor and Fans Are Not Happy About It
Every year, fans sit and wait patiently through Bachelor in Paradise to find out who will be the next Bachelor. People always have their guesses leading up to the announcement, but ultimately it is impossible to know who the next Bachelor is until ABC announces it.
Last night, it was revealed that Peter Weber would be 2020’s Bachelor. And fans are..let’s just say less than enthused.
Who was in the running for Bachelor?
When Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette ended, there were three people who fans wanted to be considered for the lead position, Peter Weber, Tyler Cameron, and Mike Johnson.
For a while, it seemed like Johnson was going to be the top pick for Bachelor. Even host Chris Harrison was onboard.
“Of course he’s a contender [for Bachelor],” Harrison told People. “How could he not be a contender with that smile? He’s one of my favorite people we’ve ever had on the show. He’s a love of a man. I don’t know him that well, and I consider him a really good friend.”
“He’s just a sweet guy,” he continued. “He gives the best hugs, the best smiles, and the best advice. He’s just a really good man and yeah, of course, he’s a contender.”
But then, he went on Bachelor in Paradise and barely received any television time, which basically meant that he was no longer a focal point for the franchise.
Cameron, Brown’s runner up, had a good shot at being the Bachelor as well, but then he started dating supermodel Gigi Hadid, which pretty much took him out of the running.
After getting his heart broken twice on Bachelor in Paradise, Derek Peth became a fan favorite and started having his name mentioned in potential Bachelor conversations as well.
But ultimately, ABC decided to go in a different direction.
Though spoilers have been out that Weber was going to be the Bachelor for a while, people had still hoped that the network would have chosen someone else.
“Mike is breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack, dinner, dessert and to top it off, a respectful, funny interesting, kind gentleman and if he isn’t The Bachelor I want an answer why,” one person tweeted before the announcement.
And once the Bachelor was revealed, people had a lot to say.
“Do I mind Peter? No,” a fan said. “Should Mike have been Bachelor? Yes.”
For most people, it wasn’t even a surprise announcement.
“The show is all, ‘The moment you’ve been waiting for…our next Bachelor!’ And we’re all sitting here already dissecting every one of Peter’s women,” Bachelor guru Reality Steve tweeted. “Way ahead of ya’ pal.”
Despite their disappointment, some fans have still retained hope that this season will be a good one.
“I’M GONNA SAY IT,” one person said. “Every year, we all think we know who we want for the next seasons of ‘Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelorette.’ We remain unamused, yet still curious enough to watch the season and end up still loving it just as hard so pls be open-minded to Peter. Thx.”
