‘Bachelor in Paradise’: These Instagram Posts From Nicole Lopez Alvar and Clay Harbor Show That There May Still Be Some Hard Feelings
Relationships don’t always go as planned. Especially on reality dating shows. When Nicole Lopez Alvar went onto Bachelor in Paradise, she was probably hoping to redeem herself from the season-long crying fest that was her stint on The Bachelor. But above all, she wanted to find love.
Nicole Lopez Alvar and Clay Harbor’s relationship
Alvar and Clay Harbor hit it off from the very beginning of Paradise. After coming off of a longterm relationship with former Bachelor in Paradise contestant Angela Amezcua, Harbor was ready for love again.
The new couple dated for the entire season of Paradise and stayed together even when Amezcua showed up on the beach. But the night before the finale, Harbor asked if they could sleep separately so that he could figure out his feelings.
“My heart wants to fight for him because I do love him so much and that’s not going to go away overnight,” Alvar said. “Ever since the beginning, Clay has made me feel like the only woman in the world.”
The final rose ceremony
When it all came down to it, Harbor wasn’t ready to get engaged to Alvar, nor was he even able to tell her that he loved her.
“Clay, honestly, I deserve the love that is so deep…the ocean would be jealous,” she told him. “I deserve to be loved equally and even bigger. I don’t need time anymore…I just know. I don’t understand. It doesn’t make sense. You either know or you don’t. That’s it, Clay. I’m sorry. I care for you so much and love you so much, but I have to do what’s best for me right now. I can’t tell people we’re together knowing that you don’t love me back.”
Harbor and Alvar on Instagram
After the finale aired, Alvar took to Instagram to tell her fans why she broke up with Harbor.
“Ladies, we don’t have to put up with anything less than wonderful,” she wrote. “We are worthy of someone’s complete and all-encompassing respect, time, love, honesty, and energy. When a man’s actions don’t line up with his words, when a man’s promises fall flat, and when a man dares to string you along (whether it’s for 16 days or for 8 months) knowing very well he does not see a future with you — we are better off on our own than loving a man who doesn’t know what he has when he has it. I know it’s scary, but sometimes, the bravest thing we can ever do is love ourselves first. If that means to run, then run.”
“I went into this experience with my heart wide open. I knew I could be setting myself up for heartache. But if there’s anything this past year on ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ has taught me, it’s that I’m stronger than I give myself credit for. I don’t regret a single moment.
Harbor’s Instagram post had a very different tune.
“I took this opportunity very seriously and looking back I could have done things differently,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, I didn’t see myself getting engaged after 16 days of exclusive dating and I wanted to be 100% truthful with my feelings even though I knew there was a chance my truth wouldn’t get the outcome I wanted. I wish nothing but the best for Nicole and understand her position as well. Also, I have nothing but love for my ‘Paradise’ cast members and will always look back at my time on that beach fondly.”
