‘Bachelor in Paradise’: This Alum Couple Just Got Engaged!
People are typically pretty skeptical when it comes to reality dating shows. And that skepticism increases tenfold when it comes to the Bachelor franchise. Some people think it’s impossible to find true love on a show where 30 guys or girls compete over one person.
And while the idea of it may seem crazy, there have actually been some success stories that have come out of the franchise. The Bachelors have the lowest success rate of all, but several Bachelorettes are still with the winners of their seasons.
But the true gem of the franchise when it comes to matchmaking is Bachelor in Paradise. The show is notorious for bringing multiple couples together in lasting relationships.
Criticism of ‘Bachelor in Paradise’
Bachelor in Paradise is definitely the wildest of the shows in the franchise. It puts a number of hot singles on a beach and gives them a seemingly infinite amount of alcohol and just lets them hookup. While that may seem like a recipe for flings and disaster, it also mimics the real dating world more than any of the other shows in the franchise, which might have something to do with all of its success.
‘BIP’ couples
There are a number of couples who have gotten married or are currently engaged after meeting on Paradise. The OG Paradise couple is Jade and Tanner Tolbert. The two are now happily married and have two children. Carly Waddell and Evan Bass also met on Paradise and are now married with a kid and are expecting a second. Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon’s romance spanned multiple seasons of BIP before they tied the knot and Krystal Nielson and Chris Randone just got married on this season of Paradise.
Not to mention, Raven Gates and Adam Gottschalk recently got engaged after meeting on the show.
So, folks, Paradise does work.
Who just got engaged?
The newest couple on the Paradise success stories roster is Kevin Wendt and Astrid Loch.
Kevin Wendt won the first season of The Bachelorette Canada. Later, he was introduced to American audiences on The Bachelor Winter Games after his Bachelorette relationship fell apart.
While on Winter Games, he began dating Iaconetti. Their relationship was also short-lived as Haibon realized he was in love with Iaconnetti once she was in a relationship with someone else.
Wendt then met Loch when he came to Paradise fresh off of his breakup from Iaconetti. Loch had appeared on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor and was also ready to find love.
The two hit it off almost instantly and were one of the strongest couples on the beach. They continued to date after the show and Loch even moved to Canada to be with Wendt.
The proposal
Yesterday, Wendt took their relationship to the next level and proposed to Loch in Toronto.
He posted a picture of the proposal on his Instagram.
“You’ll never walk alone again,” he wrote. “From here on out, we run together. Astrid, you are my family, babe. Forever.”
Loch also shared the moment with her Instagram followers.
“I could have sworn the world stood still in this moment,” she captioned the picture of Wendt proposing. “A moment I’ll never forget. Just you + me. @kevin.c.wendt you’ve taught me to love, learn and grow and I can’t believe you’ve chosen me to spend this crazy life with. Wonder if I’ll ever stop smiling? Probably not. In this together, forever.”
