‘Bachelor in Paradise’: What Happened With Dean Unglert and Kristina Schulman?
This season of Bachelor in Paradise is already bringing the drama, and there are plenty of familiar faces rejoining the cast, too. One of the most infamous castmembers of Paradise is Dean Unglert. Known for his flirtatious nature and past love triangle on the beach, he seemed to stay out of trouble this season by sticking with Caelynn Miller-Keyes as his love interest. Aside from Miller-Keyes, there was one other Paradise-goer who Unglert knew quite well — and that was Kristina Schulman.
It’s time to catch Paradise viewers up to speed on Schulman and Unglert’s sordid history, as it’s quite intense. Here’s what went down with Unglert and Schulman in the past and how Unglert felt about seeing her on the beach during the current season.
Dean Unglert just broke Caelynn Miller-Keyes’ heart on Bachelor in Paradise
Caelynn Miller-Keyes fell hard and fast for Dean Unglert when she first met him on the beach — and while she knew he had a reputation of playing the field, she still chose to pursue the relationship. Unfortunately, the rug was pulled out from under Miller-Keyes on her birthday. While Unglert gave her a rose during the rose ceremony, he then pulled her aside and told her he’d never be able or willing to give her what she needs out of a relationship.
“We’re happy now, obviously, because we get along amazingly and we get to spend every waking moment together while we’re here. But after we leave here it’s not going to be like that. Our lifestyles are not going to be compatible coming out of this,” Unglert told Miller-Keyes, according to Pop Culture. From there, Unglert left the show.
Miller-Keyes was unbearably hurt by the ordeal, of course. “I thought he was my forever and he blindsided me,” she said.
Unglert had a love triangle involving Kristina Schulman on a past season
Others on the beach felt sorry for Miller-Keyes, but they weren’t surprised by Unglert’s behavior. TV Insider explains during Season 4 of the show, Unglert and Kristina Schulman hit it off instantly, and he even visited her in her hometown when filming took a brief hiatus. Everything got a lot more complicated when Danielle Lombard showed up, however. Lombard asked Unglert on a date, and he gladly accepted. From there, Unglert was caught kissing Lombard while Schulman was watching — and while he asked Schulman to be patient with him while he figured out his feelings, she wasn’t having it.
It wasn’t just Schulman who was getting sick of Unglert’s back and forth, either. Lombard told Unglert that if he accepted a rose from Schulman, she’d no longer want to pursue anything with him. From there, Unglert seemed to choose Lombard — and Schulman left the show altogether. This ended with Unglert feeling quite regretful over his choice, however. Unglert later broke up with Lombard.
Unglert said seeing Schulman again didn’t bother him at all
While Paradise didn’t work in Unglert’s favor at the time, it seems he was still talking to both Schulman and Lombard after the show ended, too. And we know Unglert shared the Paradise beaches with Schulman this time around as well. While their relationship could have been totally awkward given their history, Cosmopolitan reports Unglert mentioned on his podcast that it was actually completely fine.
“So walking into Paradise for the second time with one of my exes on the beach…you would think it would be a little awkward. But in all honesty, it wasn’t,” he said. “I basically was telling her I hope this isn’t going to be awkward. If you’re interested in someone down there, I hope you know that you have my vote of confidence or, like, my vote of support for you.”
From the looks of the episode previews, it seems Unglert may be on his way back to Paradise to rekindle the flame with Miller-Keyes. We’ll have to wait and see what happens (and if there will be another love triangle with him, Miller-Keyes, and Connor Saeli).
