‘The Bachelorette’: Clare Crawley’s Season Will Not Be Canceled
Bachelor Nation host Chris Harrison and ABC executive Rob Mills recently revealed the franchise will replace Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette with The Bachelor: The Most Unforgettable — Ever! The summer “best-of” program will begin on June 8 as production for Crawley’s season continues to be put on hold. But don’t fret. Both Harrison and Mills confirmed Crawley’s Bachelorette journey will not be canceled, even sharing a tentative start to the new season.
‘The Bachelorette’ Season 16 production shuts down
Production for Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in mid-March 2020.
“Everyone’s health is the most important priority at this time, and as I’m sure you’ve heard, we are pressing pause for now on filming The Bachelorette,” Crawley wrote on March 13. “We are taking it day by day and even hour by hour as this is so unpredictable.”
She continued: “All I know for sure is that my heart is so full from all the love and support this far, and am still so excited for my journey to begin! I’ve waited 38 years for these moments, what’s a little bit longer, right!”
Rob Mills confirms Clare Crawley’s season of ‘The Bachelorette’ will not be canceled
When production shut down for The Bachelorette Season 16, Harrison opened up about the situation in a video on Instagram. For the most part, his remarks echoed Crawley’s statement. Then Harrison said, “To my friend Clare, you’re still my bachelorette. Hopefully, we’re still going to have the opportunity to help you find love and make this work.”
Many fans thought this was a hint Crawley’s season could potentially be canceled. But when speaking with Variety in April 2020, Mills confirmed Crawley’s will still be the next bachelorette.
“Clare’s season is happening one hundred percent,” Mills said. But now it becomes a matter of when The Bachelorette production can safely resume and eventually air on ABC.
‘The Bachelorette’ team tentatively aims to start Clare Crawley’s season in the fall of 2020
For now, it seems The Bachelorette team hopes Crawley’s season will start airing in fall 2020 if filming can begin in the summer.
“If I’m being realistic, it would probably be mid-summer that we start,” Mills told Variety.
Nevertheless, the timeline is still up in the air. And ultimately, they will hold off until it’s safe enough to resume. So a fall 2020 release may or may not happen.
“It would be crazy for us to say that we know what anything is going to look like. Not even television. I’m just talking the world in general,” Harrison said. “We don’t know when we come out of this, what it’s going to look like as far as getting back to social distancing. Can you get 10 people in a control room? Can you get 20 people in a control room? How are we going to shoot this safely?”
It also appears there will be some changes to The Bachelorette Season 16. As you might have seen while watching The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart airs, ABC is recasting Crawley’s cast. Then Mills explained they’re looking into shooting the season on one private location. He said:
We’ve looked at everything — are travel restrictions going to ease up? And it just doesn’t look like anything is changing anytime soon, and what we would rather do is start getting the season underway, sooner rather than later. As of right now, the plan is to get a great location that has a ton of space where everybody could safely be together and we can still have great dates that still feel big and romantic, and we would shoot the entire season there.
In all honesty, it’s difficult to imagine how Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette will turn out. However, we’re happy to hear the 31-year-old will receive her shot at love, no matter when that may be.
