‘Bad Boys 3’ Trailer: See Will Smith and Martin Lawrence Roll Out Together One Last Time

I told you the other day to keep an eye on Will Smith’s YouTube channel and today, he shared the trailer for the new Bad Boys movie due out in January. Titled Bad Boys for Life and co-starring Martin Lawrence, the film brings detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett back together for the latest—and possibly last—installment in the buddy cop series after more than 15 years.

Fans have been waiting for this for eons, and after a few delays, Bad Boys 3 was declared as an official “go” in November 2018. From the looks of the trailer, both Smith and Lawrence are back in their charming, comedic element for what’s been deemed as the threequel. Who’s ready?

‘Bad Boys for Life’ trailer hits the right notes with music, laughs, bullets

Nobody really cares that these guys have gotten older, except for Marcus. Lawrence’s character seems tired, over it, and ready to retire, but it’s not yet time to hang it up. No one else can go after a drug cartel quite like these two, and no one else has the style, bravado, and jokes that Marcus and Mike possess in their ride-or-die partnership.

Set to the remixed sounds of the “Bad Boys” song by Inner Circle and Diddy’s “Bad Boy for Life,” the teaser shows them in top form. Just watch.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Bad Boys for Life promises explosions, gunfights, f-bombs, and high-flying helicopter stunts. Along with Smith and Lawrence, the film will also see Joe Pantoliano reprising his role as the perpetually agitated Captain Howard. It just wouldn’t be the same without him, would it?

What’s the plot of ‘Bad Boys for Life’?

Miami’s finest are back in action, but with a new police task force and new criminal threat. According to the plot details gleaned by CBR from Production Weekly, the cop duo have a killer/mastermind to contend with:

“The new installment centers on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas (Scipio), head of a drug cartel. Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature. He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike (Smith). Nuñez will take on the role of Rite, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO and Mike’s former girlfriend- and the one who got away.”

Jacob Scipio plays the cartel boss, and he’s joined in the cast by Vanessa Hudgens, Paola Nuñez, Alexander Ludwig, Riverdale’s Charles Melton. DJ Khaled makes an appearance as a character named Manny the Butcher.

How this one differs from previous ‘Bad Boys’ movies

Though Bruckheimer is involved with Bad Boys for Life, Michael Bay, who kicked off the franchise in 1995, was initially back for this sequel but dropped out of the project. Instead, Sony brought in Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct Bad Boys 3, and according to Collider, crime dramas are their forte. They’ve also worked on Snowfall, 2015’s Black, and Gangsta.

A quick review of the cast list also revealed that Gabrielle Union—who was in Bad Boys II—is not slated to appear, but never say never. However, Union and Jessica Alba star in LA’s Finest, a television spinoff of Bad Boys. Earlier this year, it was confirmed Theresa Randle is returning for this sequel as Burnett’s wife, also named Theresa.

Bad Boys for Life will arrive in theaters on January 17, 2020.
