‘Barefoot Contessa’: Ina Garten ‘Hunkering Down at Home With Jeffrey’

It’s eye-opening during this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to hear of how the illness is affecting those in the entertainment industry.

This situation is real and affects everyone regardless of status or income level. Celebrity and fame can buy a lot, but it definitely cannot buy exemption from the coronavirus.

Celebrity chef Ina Garten opened up recently that, while we may all have to stay close to home, she was doing so with hearty and filling comfort foods, the Barefoot Contessa way.

Giada De Laurentiis closed all her restaurants

Also in the Food Network world, Italian celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis decided last week to close her restaurants. As financially painful of a decision as it must have been, the national situation calls for it and De Laurentiis did the right thing.

Her tweet message read, “As of tonight, GDL Foods will be closing our restaurant doors (Giada, Pronto By Giada & GDL Italian) for the foreseeable future to protect the health and well-being of our guests and staff.”

“This is not something my team nor I take lightly, but at this time, we feel it best to follow and respect the guidelines set forth for us. We are using this period to spend time with our families and we hope and pray we can open again soon. Stay safe! XO G”

Ina Garten is doing her part to encourage everyone to stay home

On St. Patrick’s Day, Garten stayed away from dire pronouncements or harsh reminders of the time we’re currently living in. She just wants her followers to focus on the positive of our current situation and make the best out of it that we can.

Posting on Instagram, she declared, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day! In the middle of a crisis, celebrating traditions and staying connected give us a sense of much-needed normalcy. Have lunch with a friend over FaceTime or bake something!”

“For St. Patrick’s Day, I made Irish Scones with jam and cream – with ingredients I had in my fridge and pantry! If you don’t have currants, you can substitute the same amount of raisins, dried cranberries, chopped pecans – or anything delicious that you have!”

Ina Garten is staying home to be safe

Also this week, the Barefoot Contessa star let fans take a peek into her home life right now. In an Instagram post, the Hamptons resident said, “Hunkering down at home with Jeffrey and a few Overnight Belgian Waffles for dinner. Please take every precaution and stay safe!!”

Garten published her Make It Ahead cookbook in 2014, where the waffle recipe she posted about can be found. And so, in case any of us also secluded in our homes might be interested in making this time-saving (and honestly delicious-looking) breakfast, Garten added the hashtag, #makeitaheadcookbook.

The Brooklyn-born home cook is onto something good. Right now really is the best time to try new recipes with a hopefully appreciative captive audience.
