Garten wished Taylor Swift a happy 30th birthday
Taylor Swift turned 30 on December 13 and among her dear friends, Garten ranks high. The Barefoot Contessa took to Instagram to wish her famous fan the happiest of birthdays.
“Happy birthday @taylorswift !! You’re a beacon of light for women of all generations, including me! What a brilliant speech at the Billboard awards. Congratulations!”
For her part, Swift celebrated the big 3-0 singing at Z100’s Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden, followed by a star-studded party.
How Garten and Swift became good buddies
So how does one become besties with a celebrity chef like Ina Garten?
The famous friends met through Swift’s good friend, model Lily Aldridge. Aldridge also loves Garten, and her mustard-roasted fish, in particular.
The introduction through Aldridge opened the door to Swift receiving an invitation to the Barefoot Contessa star’s Hamptons kitchen for a cooking lesson.
“I adore Taylor, and I admire her enormously,” Garten told People in 2016. “I was so flattered that she chose to work with me. We did this photoshoot together which was just one of the fun days of my life. It was just unbelievable.”
When asked in 2018 what she and Swift, both from such different backgrounds discuss, Garten opened up about the broad range of topics the friends talk about, as any friends would.
“Boyfriends. Businesses. Friends. Life. She’s very smart and very interesting and she loves her friends. She is wise beyond her years, to say the least. Just extraordinary.”
What Taylor Swift has had to say about Ina Garten
The admiration between these two friends doesn’t come just from Garten’s side. Swift usually is very private about her friends and how she feels about them.
In Garten’s case, she not only has talked about her friend, she’s written about her.
The now-30-year-old wrote about Garten for Time’s 100 Most Influential People issue in 2015, saying “It was five years ago that I first heard of Ina Garten from my friend Lily Aldridge . . . As soon as I started watching Ina’s show, I realized why so many people adore her.”
Swift expressed her admiration for Garten’s determination to teach herself to cook after her husband returned from the Vietnam War and after she finished her studies at George Washington University, plus working at the White House in the 1970s.
“Her goal is to make things easier for us,” Swift continued in her tribute to her dear friend. “Fans love her warmth and generosity. She shows us how to create memories that we’ll treasure for years to come.”
Then, Swift summed Ina Garten up brilliantly.
“For that, we will always cherish the merry and magnificent Ina Garten.”
