Before Demi Lovato: Other Celebrities Who Survived Drug Overdoses

Reports surfaced that Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital following an apparent drug overdose in July 2018. After the news broke, a rep for the singer confirmed it and fellow celebrities posted messages of support via social media.

The Sorry not Sorry artist is another name added to the list of entertainers who have overdosed, but she along with a few other stars are very lucky to be alive. Here are some of the celebs who overdosed and lived to talk about it.

Pink

Pink admitted that she partied hard when she was just a preteen and was introduced to drugs at the age of 12.

The singer abused ecstasy, crystal meth, and ketamine. In 1995, she overdosed. That served as a wake-up call for her and she never took drugs again after that.

Lamar Odom

Many recall when in 2015, headlines surfaced that former basketball player and ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom, overdosed at a brothel in Pahrump, Nevada.

After he was found unconscious, Odom was transported to the hospital and was in a coma for days. It took him months to recover and doctors were amazed that he survived.

Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin revealed that he overdosed when he was in his twenties. In 1985, he became sober and years later got candid in an interview about that period in his life.

“I got sober when I was just about to turn 27, and those two years that I lived in that white, hot period, as a daily drug abuser, as a daily drinker, to my misery, boy, that was a tough time,” the actor said. “There was really, really a lot of pain in there. A lot of pain.”

Eminem

In 2007, following the murder of his best friend, DeShaun Dupree Holton, known by his stage name Proof, Eminem overdosed on methadone.

“I didn’t know it was methadone.,” the rapper told The New York Times. “I used to get pills wherever I could. I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.”

Courtney Love

Courtney Love overdosed in 2003 after police responded to a burglary call when she broke the windows of her friend’s house in an attempt to get inside.

The Hole frontwoman was taken into custody but released and less than an hour later, paramedics rushed her to the hospital after she was found at a Beverly Hills home suffering from the effects of an overdose.

Brooke Mueller

Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller was admitted to the hospital for overdosing six different times, yes six.

The actress is said to have overdosed on a number drugs over the years including Adderall and crystal meth. She has been in rehab more than 20 times.

Fantasia

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino overdosed in 2010 in an attempt to take her own life.

“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” she said. “At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with — all of it.”

Tila Tequila

Reality TV star Tila Tequila overdosed after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2012.

“I can remember feeling like the bones were popping out the side of my head [because] the pain was so bad. I took some medications and tried to go for a nap, but when I woke up I was vomiting,” she told Us Weekly. “I really thought I was going to die.”
