Bella Thorne Calls Out Freeform After Seeing Reports That ‘Famous in Love’ Is Canceled
Bella Thorne is hurt by her network, and she isn’t afraid to call them out on it. On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, the 20-year-old star blasted Freeform on Twitter after coming across reports that her show, Famous in Love, was canceled.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, her show allegedly won’t be coming back for a third season. Thorne clearly felt disrespected to have read this news on social media, and was sure to voice her frustrations. While sharing a report from SpoilerTV on Twitter, Thorne wrote, “If this is how I find out our show is canceled..I’m going to be so upset. Very hurtful freeform.” She added, “I woulda liked a phone call maybe.”
Despite the reports on Famous in Love’s cancellation, a rep for Freeform claimed, “No decision has been made at this time.”
Plus, showrunner and Pretty Little Liars creator I. Marlene King took to Twitter to dispel any rumors about the show’s cancellation herself. “FACT: The ENTIRE @FamousInLoveTV cast and crew are crossing our fingers and toes as we light candles for a S3 pickup. #Raige On!,” she shared.
She also took the time to note, “Despite what may be out there I am not in a feud w @bellathorne.” She added, “We have, and have always had, a friendly and professional relationship.”
King’s claim is likely in reference to reports that she’s been clashing on set with Thorne. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thorne has been “exhibiting what sources described as ‘diva-like behavior’ on set.” Therefore, the cancellation of Famous in Love has been “considered a relief for many members of the production.”
Aside from Thorne and King’s rumored feud, The Hollywood Reporter provided additional insight into why their show could be getting the boot:
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Freeform initially wanted to do a third season of the expensive series from producers Warner Horizon Scripted Television but asked streaming partner Hulu — which has SVOD rights to the drama — for a larger contribution. Sources say Hulu has yet to receive a formal proposal from Freeform to save Famous in Love, which saw its same-day viewership sink. Season two averaged 254,000 total viewers, down from 330,000 in its freshman run.
Saying goodbye to her character, Paige Townsen, would undoubtedly be difficult for Thorne. She’s been portraying her character since April 2017, and she clearly doesn’t want to say goodbye. In 2015, she explained just how much she relates to Paige.
“I relate to her in many ways,” Thorne told People. “She gets caught up in this harsh world with the paparazzi and media and everything else, and struggles with how to handle it. It’s something I’ve dealt with and it’s hard. I like that we see her whole way in.”
Whether or not Famous in Love is actually getting canceled, King will luckily be sticking around with the network in either scenario. After her success with Pretty Little Liars, Freeform picked up her spinoff to the show, The Perfectionists.
