‘Below Deck’: Is the Crew Turning on Kate Chastain?

Whether crew members love or hate chief stew Kate Chastain from Below Deck, they usually seem to respect her. But the tides appear to be changing this season as the preview clip captures mutiny from some of the crew.

Captain Lee Rosbach gifts the crew a mini-vacation off of the yacht. As they get ready to leave, some of the crew members get frustrated with the amount of time Chastain is taking to get ready. Cameras capture the crew waiting in the crew mess area as Chastain and deckhand Rhylee Gerber get ready to leave.

Chastain pours herself a drink and gets dressed while checking her hair and makeup. Meanwhile, Gerber emerges in a towel and still has to get dressed. The crew grows more and more frustrated and even a little angry as they wait for Chastain and Gerber.

What’s the rush?

Deckhand Tanner Sterback complains that they are still waiting for Chastain. “So f**king annoying,” he says. The guys are the ones who mainly seem frustrated with Chastain. Stews Simone Mashile and Courtney Skippon patiently relax, while looking at their phones.

But Sterback, chef Kevin Dobson, deckhand Brian de Saint Pern, and bosun Ashton Pienaar seem restless. “She just doesn’t give a sh*t does she,” de Saint Pern remarks. As they wait, Chastain pops open a bottle of wine in her room. Although the guys are annoyed, they try to get Mashile to check on Chastain and Gerber. Mashile laughs and says she’s not going to check on them.

Pienaar eventually musters the courage to ask Chastain how much longer. “Could you maybe hurry up please,” he says. Chastain hilariously replies, “That lounge chair’s not going to be there all day. Oh wait, it will.”

The crew grows more annoyed

Dobson suggests to the guys that Chastain should at least look like she’s trying to hurry. “It’s just the whole f**king crew waiting for two people,” Pienaar remarks. ‘Every time.” Sterback parrots that the crew waits for Gerber and Chastain every time too.

At this point, the crew has been waiting 15 minutes. “It’s just disrespectful to everybody else,” Pienaar continues. Sterback can’t understand why they are taking so long. “It’s just putting on a f**king bikini! It doesn’t take long!”

Chastain says in a confessional, “I’m the last one to get ready because first of all, I’m a higher rank than everyone else. Second of all shut the f**k up.” Gerber finally emerges and the guys immediately demand to know where is Chastain. Eventually, they all leave with Chastain groaning as they depart.

Could Chastain also be in trouble with Captain Lee too?

Chastain may have also pushed Rosbach’s buttons too. In another upcoming clip, she’s filmed throwing what appears to be crew uniforms on the floor as Rosbach looks on, appearing pretty annoyed.

Leading up to the moment with Rosbach, de Saint Pern calls Chastain a “bitch” in the van after an evening out. Later in the crew mess, Pienaar gets irritated with Chastain and points at her. “This is the crew mess shared by the whole crew and the captain.” She seems completely nonplussed by his remark.

But Rosbach says he’ll be dealing with the incident later.  “Come tomorrow and we’re going to have a come to Jesus meeting where I say you sure were a dumbsh*t last night.”
