Ben Affleck And Matt Damon’s Lifelong Friendship: How Batman Once Saved Jason Bourne In A Fight
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are two very big Hollywood actors who have known each other since they were kids. Now, both are big-time action stars, with the former playing Batman and the latter a skilled fighter Jason Bourne. Though we’re not sure who would win in a fight, we do know that Affleck has had Damon’s back in real life before. Read on to learn more.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been friends for a very long time
As legend has it, Affleck was the first of the two to begin to get attention in Hollywood. After starring in Glory Daze (in which Damon also had a role), Affleck had a bit of clout, which helped as the two friends got their original script, Good Will Hunting, sold. They won an Academy Award, and the rest in history.
Both then appeared in a handful of Kevin Smith projects, including Dogma and Jersey Girl. But it was around this time, in the early ’00s, that both of their careers really took off in earnest. Despite starring in many different projects, Affleck and Damon remained close.
Both are established stars in Hollywood now
These days, you know Damon and Affleck from a whole host of projects. The former has gone from franchise to franchise, beginning with Ocean’s Eleven and subsequent sequels to the Bourne series. Damon has also made a handful of TV appearances, most notably in 30 Rock as Liz’s boyfriend Carol.
Meanwhile, Affleck has had a lot on his own plate. He has made waves as a director with films such as Argo and The Town. Affleck has also had his hand in a number of previously existing IPs, beginning with the Marvel failure Daredevil and then, more recently, as Bruce Wayne in the DCEU.
Damon told a story about Affleck from when they were kids
Affleck and Damon hail from Boston, an area that is somewhat known for being full of people who like to get in fights. But not Damon. “The last fight I got into would have been in the mid-80s. We had a snow day at school so we would all meet in the Cambridge Common and play tackle football,” said Damon on Conan.
As it turns out, Affleck was there, too. “I mouthed off to a kid that I knew. He was 6’6″ and I might have been 5’3″ at the time,” said Damon. “I was on the ground and he was above me. I was like ‘This is going to be bad.’ And it was right then that little 5’2″ Ben Affleck tackled this dude off of me, like out of nowhere.”
Damon laughed, adding that nothing came out of it and everyone was fine. “But I remember that was a big moment [for me], going ‘This guy, he will put himself in a really bad spot for me. This is a good friend.'”
How many projects have they worked on together?
Though their friendship has persevered, Damon and Affleck’s relationship writing and acting together has waned over the years. However, they have a movie in the works, The Last Duel, which both are set to star in from a script they’ve penned together.
Additionally, the pair have a production company together, called Pearl Street Films, for which they produced such TV series as Project Greenlight and the new Showtime series City on a Hill, as well as films like Jason Bourne and Live by Night (which Affleck also directed and starred in).
