3 Best Movies in Theaters Right Now: ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and More

Last week we had some pretty impressive new movies in theaters. The best one being Arrival, which was a very pleasant surprise for many viewers. Chances are the film will land star, Amy Adams her sixth Oscar nomination. There have been more exciting movies coming out this week, and one of them is another film starring Adams. So what are the best movies in theaters this week? Here are three you should go see!

1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

There has been a void that many Harry Potter fans have been waiting to fill since the series ended. Now, J.K. Rowling is back with a film adaption that takes place in the same universe as the Harry Potter series. The movie follows magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) in New York City where he misplaces a briefcase full of fantastic beasts.

The movie already has a rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s a promising start for the new series. Critics seem to be happy with Rowling’s revisit to the magical world, and found the new elements in this story refreshing. There also seems to be a lot of action and plenty of new information for fans to dive into.

Redmayne has been nominated for an Oscar the last two years and won for his role in The Theory of Everything. Ezra Miller, who plays Credence in the film, has great movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower under his belt, along with fun projects like playing the Flash. Most importantly, the movie was directed by David Yates who had a clear vision while directing four of the Harry Potter movies, so we’re in trusted hands.

2. Nocturnal Animals

If you’re in the mood for a thriller, then this movie is the one you want to see. Amy Adams plays Susan, a woman who believes her ex-husband’s violent thriller novel is a veiled threat. She takes it upon herself to get revenge, and from the looks of the trailer, she might have taken things too far. The Rotten Tomatoes rating is at 75% and a lot of the complaints about the film are regarding director and writer Tom Ford’s story. However, it seems like Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal do great with what they’re given.

3. Bleed for This

This biopic tells the story of Vinny Pazienza (Miles Teller), a world champion boxer who returns to the sport after surviving a car crash that almost took away his ability to walk. This is also somewhat of a comeback for director Ben Younger who has worked with talented actors including Meryl Streep. Teller has been in critically acclaimed movies like Whiplash and War Dogs. Chances are, these two working together will be a recipe for success. The Rotten Tomatoes rating is 66% at the time of writing.
