Bethenny Frankel and Meghan Markle Have 2 Big Things In Common
One is a Bravolebrity with a booming business and growing empire. The other is a royal-in-waiting who’s traded her acting career for a fairy tale romance. Given the circumstances, it may not seem as though Bethenny Frankel and Meghan Markle would have anything in common, but you’d be surprised.
From rocky relationships to charitable causes and everything in between, we’re counting down to the most shocking similarities between these two powerful women.
6. Their relationships continue to garner exceptional media attention
Markle’s relationship status hardly needs explaining. She’s the woman who stole the heart of the world’s most eligible bachelor, Prince Harry. In turn, she became an instant media sensation. From her early acting days to every detail of her royal wedding, the world is on a need-to-know basis with Markle.
As for Frankel? Well, her relationship has been grabbing headlines, as well. As opposed to Markle’s romantic relationship, though, Frankel’s has been much more traumatic (more on that next).
Next: Here’s how their relationships are different.
5. They both had ugly divorces
As mentioned, Frankel’s been in an ugly battle with her ex, Jason Hoppy, for years. The pair has been in and out of court, arguing over assets, and struggling with shared custody. And as for Markle? Well, she’s also had a rocky relationship past.
Although Markle’s most-talked-about romance is undoubtedly her current relationship with a real-life prince, she, too, has been through a divorce. In 2004, Markle met her first husband, Trevor Engelson. They got married in 2011 and divorced in 2013.
Furthermore, while Markle’s divorce wasn’t as messy as Frankel’s, it was rather sudden. According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, Markle’s first marriage ended abruptly. So abruptly, in fact, that she mailed her diamond wedding and engagement rings back to Engelson.

4. They both had talk show ambitions
Wendy Williams is a big personality who tends to flip-flop on certain issues and personal opinions. Or, at least that’s the case when it comes to her opinion of Markle. Before Markle was engaged to the prince, Williams spoke highly of her. But after she got the ring, that seemed to change.
Never one to shy away from dramatic moments, Williams began speaking poorly of Markle, calling her a “random princess.” Additionally, it became important to Williams to let the world know that she was, indeed, somehow connected to the soon-to-be royal. According to the talk-show host, Markle had applied for a job at the show.
Similarly, Frankel had also caught the talk show bug. And from 2012 to 2014, she hosted her own show, titled Bethenny. The show, however, was a total flop, and even Frankel, herself, admitted she was relieved when the show got canceled.

3. They’re both health nuts
Frankel made her millions off of her health-conscious alcohol brand, Skinnygirl. As the name suggests, it’s a low-cal drink marketed to women who care about being healthy. Aside from that, any fan of The Real Housewives of New York is well-aware that this margarita mogul absolutely loves practicing yoga.
While Markle may not be as nutty as Frankel (in any sense of the word), she certainly knows how to keep a good physique. When it comes to eating good food, she sticks to healthy meals, although she won’t resist a craving when one comes on.
Next: There’s no denying they both have a shared priority.
2. They’re both advocates for women
As we know, Markle has long advocated for women’s rights and equality. In fact, she’s been speaking out against gender inequality since she was just 11 years old. She works with UN Women, and has even spoken up about the sexualization of her Suits character.
Similarly, Frankel has been an advocate for empowering women in business since we first met her on reality TV. More specifically, she’s really stepped up to the plate with her charity, B Strong. According to the website,
B Strong programs for women and their families in crisis works with the national disaster relief charity Delivering Good to provide people affected by the recent natural disasters with much-needed gift cards, bank cards and critical supplies.
Next: This will blow your mind.
1. Frankel went on a date with Markle’s ex-husband
Say what? Yes, that’s right. The millionaire businesswoman admitted she once went on a date with Markle’s ex. Shocking, we know.
But before we dive any deeper, let’s get one thing straight: Frankel never said they dated in the sense that they had a romantic relationship. She did, however, say they once went on a date. But the relationship never matured after that.
So, how did it all go down? Well, during an appearance on Australia’s Kyle & Jackie O show, Frankel said of her one-time date with Engelson,
I met him in Chicago and we were supposed to go out, and I ended up seeing him one time and he’d been texting me. He’s a producer in LA. He told me that he was married before. He’s divorced [now]. He was married to this girl named Meghan Markle from the TV show ‘Suits.’
At the time, Frankel had no idea who Markle was. But after the world became consumed with Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry, Frankel had to tell Engelson that she had finally made the connection. “Holy s**t, your ex is going to be a princess!” Frankel said when she reached out.
Next: Is their relationship really over?
Bonus: Frankel may be getting into business with Markle’s ex
Although Frankel and Engelson’s romantic relationship never turned into anything, they’ve managed to keep in touch. In fact, the two may even have a budding business relationship in the works. According to Frankel, Markle’s ex pitched a show idea about businesswomen to Frankel, which seems like it’d be right up her alley.
So, will the two be co-producers in the near future? We’ll have to wait and see.
