Bethenny Frankel from ‘RHONY’ and Her Return to Reality TV
Bethenny Frankel devastated Bravo fans when she announced she was quitting The Real Housewives of New York City. The reality star cited she was going to focus on her daughter and a production deal she had signed earlier in the year. With the reality show moving on without her, Frankel now talks about the project that would bring her back to television.
“We’re in like, legal paper stage for two shows that I’m partnering with Mark Burnett on — one that I would be in, that would focus on me and a lot of the business aspects of myself and the next stage of my life,” Frankel said on Entertainment Tonight. “And the other one, I’m not in. I’m just producing it.”
Frankel signed a production deal with Mark Burnett who she feels has been a great match for her to work with.
“But both of them were my ideas,” she explained. “They’re my execution, so it’s amazing to be able to take the next step in television. And, Mark Burnett is another level — I’ve met my match! I’ve met my match romantically [with boyfriend Paul Bernon], and I’ve met my match, creatively, business-wise and [in] television with Mark Burnett.”
‘RHONY’ cast relieved
Following Frankel’s exit from RHONY, her former co-star Luann de Lesseps said the cast is relieved that she’s gone.
“I think the whole cast is relieved, in a way, and it also leaves breathing room for other women to shine and show their personalities because a lot was Bethenny coming in and kind of stealing the show,” De Lesseps said during an interview on Jenny McCarthy’s SiriusXM show. “But guess what, she can’t steal our show. This season is amazing and I can’t wait for everyone to see the new season.”
Although the cabaret star is relieved now, her initial reaction to Frankel quitting the show was much different.
“I was shocked,” De Lesseps said. “I was, you know, surprised and not surprised in a way because I think that she is in a relationship that I don’t think she wants to bring around on the show.”
The Countess was referencing Bernon, who Frankel never introduced on the show.
“She’s a lot of fun. She can be really nasty. She’s very funny,” De Lesseps added. “Those are the people you kind of get up for in the morning, because they challenge you. I always held my own with Bethenny. [She] and I have always had this, up and down kind of relationship, and she’s not an easy person to manage. I just feel like, that part, I’ll kind of miss. It’s challenging. I found a kind of fun in it. Listen, I’ll miss her but at the same, time, when you’re around her, it’s like walking on eggshells.”
Bethenny Frankel quit ‘RHONY’
It was in August of this year that Frankel announced she was moving on from RHONY just days before the start of production of season 12.
“I have decided to leave the ‘Housewives’ franchise to explore my next chapter,” Frankel said in a statement via Variety. “It’s time to move on and focus on my daughter, my philanthropy and my production partnership with Mark Burnett, producing and starring in shows which represent a shift in the conversation for women. With the changes in modern culture, I want to highlight the strength, confidence and unstoppable power that women have.”
The Real Housewives of New York City is set to return in 2020 on Bravo.
