‘Better Call Saul’ Star Bob Odenkirk Reveals Details About the Final Season: ‘It Explodes in a Million Directions’

With Better Call Saul in its final season, viewers are more excited than ever to see how the show plays out. Over the past five seasons, the show has chronicled Jimmy McGill’s journey from a do-good lawyer to the seedy “criminal” attorney that Breaking Bad fans know and love.

As a prequel, we already know that things don’t work out well for Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). But there are still holes that need to be filled to round out his story. Offering up some tidbits about season 6, Odenkirk says it will explode “in a million directions” before the series finale airs.

‘Better Call Saul’ has many questions to answer before its ends

Ever since the show’s 2015 premiere, lots of questions have swarmed about the fate of certain characters surrounding Saul — especially Kim Wexler. At first, it was widely believed that Saul’s bad behavior would one day push her away for good. But now that she’s on a questionable path of her own, there’s lots of speculation that she actually dies in the finale season.

And what about Lalo Salamanca? After surviving his assassination attempt in season 5, he’s surely going to want revenge against Gus Fring and Nacho Varga, who’s also missing from Breaking Bad. But will he be successful? Or will Nacho be able to escape as planned?

Then the biggest question of all is what happens to Saul after he flees Alburquerque and moves to Nebraska as Gene Takovic. Through flash-forward scenes, we learned his cover has been blown by a man who could possibly be a law enforcement agent or a member of the cartel. The incident spooked Gene so much that he started to flee the state, but then he suddenly changed his mind. “I’ll handle it myself,” he told The Disappearer.

What Bob Odenkirk says about the ‘Better Call Saul’ final season

Sitting down for a virtual interview with Collider, Odenkirk opened up about what might happen next. He explained that he’s not aware of the full events, but that he’s heard it’s going to be intense.

“I’m finding out script by script [how the season goes]. I’m told that the wheels come off in Season 6 and it explodes in a million directions. That sounds to me like there’s a fair amount of violence, but I don’t know for a fact,” he said.

Odenkirk continued saying he hopes his character will ultimately have somewhat of a good ending when the series concludes, but with a show like Better Call Saul, it’s hard to say if that’ll happen.

“We have a discussion where my point of view is that Walter White became an angry, broken version of himself. I wonder if it would be possible to write — because I like the guy — I wonder if it would be possible to give Jimmy McGill a better ending, a better place to end in than he started in. I don’t know if they’re going to do that though,” he continued.

Unfortunately, the show doesn’t have an exact premiere date yet, but it is expected to air in the early half od 2022.
