Beyonce and Netflix: Why It Was Only a Matter of Time for Them to Team Up

Beyonce and Netflix. Two powerful names in the entertainment industry have finally come together. Beyonce is working with Netflix on a documentary that is tied into her 2018 Coachella performance. While fans are undoubtedly ecstatic they’ll get their dose of Queen Bey on their favorite streaming service, the collaboration should really come as no surprise. Power attracts power, and these two have a lot of it.

Netflix, founded in February of 1997, began its rise to total entertainment domination as the world’s “first online DVD store.” It began offering services to customers officially in 1998 and has slowly grown since then. In 2005, Netflix had risen to just over four million viewers and, in 2007, it officially began offering streaming services. This was the point where it began to revolutionize the way modern people watch television.

Fast forward to today and Netflix has over 139 million subscribers globally. They don’t just offer streaming services of other company’s shows but they create their own original television series and films — the Netflix original content is among the most highly watched. Just a few of the company’s original shows include Stranger Things, Fuller House, The Punisher, Queer Eye, You, and Orange is the New Black. Movies include the incredibly popular Bird Box, as well as The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, 1922, and To The Bone

It should be obvious that Netflix doesn’t plan to stop there. They’ve been making deals with major networks, poaching some of the best talent in the industry to make their productions, and are debating on purchasing actual movie theaters for their use. Oh, and they also bought up an astonishing amount of billboards specifically for their own use so they can’t be used by the competition. It truly is a total takeover, and Netflix isn’t taking prisoners.

Beyonce is one of the world’s biggest celebrities

You’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t at least heard of Beyonce, whether or not they’ve listened to any of her albums or watched any of the movies she’s starred in. The 37-year-old is an absolute omni-threat — forget triple threat. She can not only sing, dance, and act, but she’s also a songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur.

Queen Bey got her start as one of three members of the popular 1990s girl group Destiny’s Child, which also featured Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. While all three girls proved to be incredibly talented, it was Bey who really shined and that helped to launch her incredibly successful solo career.

That solo music career spawned a successful acting career. Besides voicing Nala in Lion King 2019, Beyonce has also appeared in Dream Girls, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Cadillac Records, Obsessed, and The Pink Panther.

Besides her work in the newest adaptation of The Lion King, Beyonce recently revealed she’s working on new music. The queen says it’s not a new full-length album, but a few new songs that will go with a “best of” anthology she plans to release soon.

Beyonce will join dozens of other musicians documentaries on Netflix

For those who love documentaries on musicians, you’ll be happy to know that Beyonce’s upcoming feature isn’t the only one you can watch. Currently streaming on Netflix are documentaries on Lady Gaga (GAGA: Five Foot Two), Sam Cooke (The Two Killings of Sam Cooke), Amy Winehouse (Amy), and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones (Keith Richards: Under the Influence). There are also biographical documentaries on musicians like Chris Brown, Biggie, Tupac, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Twisted Sister, and Jimi Hendrix which are worth watching.
