Beyoncé appeared in Disney’s photo-real adaptation of ‘The Lion King’

Miss Carter was way more than just a Grammy-award winning artist. Beyoncé starred as Nala in Disney’s 2019 version of The Lion King, alongside actors Donald Glover (Childish Gambino,) Seth Rogen, James Earl Jones, and Billy Eichner.

Together, they helped create one of the most popular movies of the summer, bringing Disney over a billion dollars in box office sales. For Beyoncé, however, one of the reasons for her involvement was her personal connection to the film, and the ability to share it with her children, Blue Ivy, Sir, and Rumi.

“I’m so excited for my kids to see it, but it means even more to share this experience and this culture of The Lion King with my mother and my family,” Beyoncé said during an interview with Oprah Magazine. The website continued to say the premiere was run by the WACO (Where Art Can Occur) Theater Center, an institution founded by Tina Knowles and her husband Richard Lawson.

Beyoncé took her involvement one step further, creating a Lion King-inspired album, entitled The Lion King: The Gift. Curated and produced by this Grammy-award winning artist, Beyoncé uses audio clips from the photo-real adaptation of the film, including songs inspired by and featuring African culture and music.

“We’ve kind of created our own genre and I feel like the soundtrack is the first soundtrack where it becomes visual in your mind,” the singer said during an interview with Good Morning America. “The soundscape is more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”

Beyoncé took the family’s relationship with The Lion King one step further, featuring her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on the song “Brown Skin Girl.” With over 40 million plays on Spotify, Blue Ivy earned her first hit with this song at only 7-years-old.

Will Beyoncé appear in any other Disney movies?

There is no official news from Disney or Beyoncé regarding future movies starring this Grammy-award winning actress. According to Metro, Disney opened conversations about giving the actress “free reign to create her own movies under the Disney umbrella… The conversations are ongoing but it’s an exciting proposition.”

Looks like fans will have to wait a little longer for another Disney blockbuster starring Beyoncé. However, Disney already has a slew of live-action remakes set for premiere within the upcoming months. That includes their adaptations of Mulan and The Little Mermaid.

Disney’s 2019 adaptation of The Lion King releases on Disney+ during January 2020. Music by Beyoncé, including The Lion King: The Gift, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and most major music platforms.
