Details on the new album
Guess what else this means? There is brand new music coming from Queen Bey that is connected directly to The Lion King. She produced and curated each song on a new album which features sounds and singers from the continent of Africa. Titled The Lion King: The Gift, the project includes an array of genres, voices, and instrumentation. It be released on July 19 along with the film.
In a press release, Beyoncé made a statement about the album which highlights the inspiration behind it:
“This is sonic cinema. This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.
I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline. Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”
Beyoncé voices the character Nala in the upcoming live-action film. While the original motion picture soundtrack for The Lion King comes out on July 11, fans should look out for Beyonce’s The Lion King: The Gift album on the 19th. That’s two albums everyone will have to buy!
