Beyoncé Excites Fans With New Promo Photo From ‘The Lion King’
We’re getting closer to July 19, the release date for The Lion King, which is sure to set off the rest of summer. Disney keeps tantalizing fans with teasers, soundtrack snippets, and first look photos, but Beyoncé is also helping to ramp things up.
Recently, she shared a trailer featuring a duet with Donald Glover, and fans went wild. This week, it’s something else that’s getting people all in their nostalgic + Queen Bey feelings, equaling out to be the perfect promotional cocktail.
New photo shared by Beyoncé
Adding to The Lion King hype is a new photo shared by Beyoncé on her Instagram account. Fans are digging the still image of the star standing face-to-face with her lioness character, Nala. Many expressed their excitement, saying they can’t wait to see the movie and calling Bey a “real lioness queen.”
As thrilled as the general public is about seeing the movie and Beyoncé’s performance, perhaps no one is more excited about it than the singer herself. In a recent interview with OWN, she opened up about what playing Nala means to her as someone who grew up watching The Lion King, saying, “I’m so excited for my kids to see it, but it means even more to share this experience and this culture of The Lion King with my mother and my family.”
This wasn’t the only Lion King-themed pic that fans have been treated to, as Beyoncé also posted a collection of photos from the Wearable Art Gala that was held in June. The event’s theme was “Journey to the Pride Lands,” and Beyoncé rocked a couture Nala catsuit that featured sequins, feathers, and intricate beadwork. Her daughter, Blue Ivy, was also in the photo series, and she wore a yellow, African-inspired dress with a beaded crown.
More images released for ‘The Lion King’
While there is a lot of fanfare surrounding Beyoncé’s role in the live-action movie, the rest of the photos Disney shared for the film are also impressive. The company posted a series of stills on its Instagram account, including ones of the two child actors playing the young versions of Simba and Nala.
Each actor bears a similar pose to Beyoncé’s, with Donald Glover staring at Simba’s countenance, and Chiwetel Ejiofor squaring up with Scar, the film’s supreme villain. Scroll through this photo set and you’ll also get to see the hyena lineup—which includes Keegan-Michael Key, Eric André, and Florence Kasumba—as well as Zazu, Pumbaa, and Timon, who look like the happiest bunch.
Who’s playing the beloved group of friends that took in the young Simba? John Oliver, Seth Rogen, and Billy Eichner, who will no doubt bring the comedy and charm that the characters possess. Alfre Woodard will also star as the regal Sarabi, Simba’s mother.
It’s been divulged that Beyoncé is creating an original track for the film, so don’t be surprised if she shocks us by dropping a clip before the movie hits theaters. Fortunately for fans, the movie soundtrack will be released on July 11. That’s just about one week away and will help tide everyone over until the movie is out.
