Beyoncé’s Motherhood Challenge Proves She’s Just Like Us

One of the things that tend to separate celebrities from the fans who adore them is their lofty ability to opt-out of some struggles of everyday life. Sure, they may have to deal with added pressures on their appearance and the constant eye of the paparazzi, but they get personal assistants and tremendous wealth in exchange.

Beyoncé, who is among the most famous celebrities in the world and one-half of an enormously wealthy entertainment duo, certainly has access to resources her fans do not. However, her comments about motherhood make it clear that riches aren’t enough to alleviate the struggles.

When it comes to parenting children, Beyoncé shows us that we’re all in the same boat — and it’s hard for everyone.

Beyoncé has three children with husband Jay-Z

Beyoncé and hip hop mogul Jay-Z married in a very private ceremony in 2008 after staying quiet about their relationship status for years. They quickly began adding to their family and welcomed daughter Blue Ivy in 2012.

Beyoncé was also very open about the pain of miscarriage that had been a hurdle during her marriage, which is part of the reasons that fans were overjoyed to hear she had welcomed healthy twins Sir and Rumi in 2017.

The family of five is still mostly private about what goes on behind closed doors, but Beyoncé has given fans small glimpses of her gorgeous children. While the children of such famous people are surely going to grow up with some unique challenges and privileges, it does seem that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are committed to giving their children a solidly stable upbringing — even when that means traveling on tour together.

Even though Beyoncé is very private about her personal life, she has given fans some insight into her parenting style. An insider close to the family explained that Beyoncé puts her role as a mother before her role as an entertainer.

“It might seem like her career would take up all her time, but it’s quite the opposite. Her career is always second and her kids are her first priority,” the insider said. “She loves being a mom and wants to be around as much as possible.”

Part of the reason that Beyoncé keeps her children out of the public eye is that she wants them to have as normal of a life as possible. She even chose her daughter’s private school with an eye toward stability, choosing a school that would help protect her daughter’s privacy and just let her be herself.

While growing up with $500 million trust funds definitely gives these kids a head start in life, Jay-Z and Beyoncé seem determined to give them a normal life experience as much as possible.

Work-life balance is a struggle for Beyoncé

With this hands-on parenting style, Beyoncé faces the same struggles with motherhood that many women face. In a 2019 interview with Elle, Beyoncé revealed what an effort it took to make the pieces of her life fit together.

“I think the most stressful thing for me is balancing work and life. Making sure I am present for my kids—dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family—all while running a company can be challenging. Juggling all of those roles can be stressful, but I think that’s life for any working mom,” the famous singer explained.

While it may appear from the outside that celebrities have it easy, the truth is that managing parenthood and a career is hard for everyone. Beyoncé proves no exception to the rule.
