‘BH90210’: Is This the Reason Why Shannen Doherty Joined the ‘90210’ Reboot?
The 90210 reboot had almost the entire original cast back except for Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry. That has officially changed because Doherty confirmed she’ll be joining her former cast members. Is there a reason she joined the show after all? Here is everything you need to know.
Shannen Doherty confirmed she joined B90210
Doherty posted a throwback photo of the 90210 cast with the caption, “Yes it’s official. The real question is…. will we still be rocking those outfits. #bh90210.”
Spelling also posted about the news on Instagram with her own throwback photo. She wrote in the caption, “It’s OFFICIAL…ALL the OG 90210 girls will be together again! So exited [sic] to go on this journey with you.”
Other original members returning include Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling, Gabrielle Carteris, and Ian Ziering.
The reboot will be called BH90210 and the actors will reportedly be playing “heightened versions of themselves in a brand-new serialized drama – with a healthy dose of irreverence – that is inspired by their real lives and relationships,” according to People.
Fox also questioned, “What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?”
Doherty was previously fired from 90210
The actress played Brenda Walsh on the show. Things didn’t end well between her and her cast members.
“Somebody will call [the tabs] up and say, ‘They’re yelling at each other on the set,’ and they will turn around and make it 10 times worse,” Doherty told People. “I’m a strong woman. There are still some people out there who can’t deal with that.”
She was eventually fired at the end of Season 3. Tori Spelling claimed Doherty and Jennie Garth got into such a bad fight that it almost got physical.
“I remember… I could hear the door fly open and everyone screaming and crying,” Spelling said on Tori Spelling: Celebrity Lie Detector. “That’s when I was told the boys just had to break up Jennie and Shannen. It was like a fistfight.”
Doherty’s past with the cast made it less surprising that she wasn’t previously signed on to return. So why is she joining on the show now?
There was a rumor that Doherty might join to pay homage to Luke Perry
Luke Perry passed away in March. Fans and fellow cast members shared their stories to remember him.
Doherty shared a recent picture of her and Perry together. She wrote in the caption, “Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me. I’m struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts. But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives. Processing this is impossible right now.”
A source told Us Weekly shortly after the news, “Luke was Shannen’s favorite in the cast.” The source then said, “She may participate now if they somehow pay homage to him.”
It’s unknown how the new show will pay homage to Perry. The reboot will premiere in the summer.
