‘The Big Bang Theory’: First Look at Sheldon and Amy’s Next Big Step
The Big Bang Theory‘s Sheldon and Amy are taking their next big step forward. CBS has just released the first official look at the sitcom’s next episode, in which the famously slow moving couple finally take the plunge and move in together … well, sort of.
In the upcoming episode, “The Cohabitation Experimentation” (the fourth installment of Season 10), Amy’s apartment gets flooded, making it unlivable for the time being. She ends up moving into Sheldon and Leonard’s home while things get sorted out. The arrangement is only supposed to be temporary, but could it potentially lead to a more permanent set-up? After all, as fans know, Amy has been working on convincing Sheldon to live with her for years now.
Not so fast. It looks like the show won’t be breaking up Sheldon and Leonard just yet. Series creator, Steve Molaro recently made it clear that Amy and Sheldon’s cohabitation will only be an experiment for now. “Any shifts that happen are experimental and could be undone if necessary,” he told The Hollywood Reporter of the change in living arrangements. “Phrased in the show [terms], presenting something to Sheldon that he may not want to do as science and data collection is a good way to try and get him on board.”
That being said, living with Amy — even temporarily– will mark a big shift for Sheldon, who we all know doesn’t exactly react well to change. His hesitation can be glimpsed in the recently released stills from the episode, seen above. In one photo, the couple moves in Amy’s stuff together, as the now twice married Leonard and Penny look on amusedly. In another, the two sit awkwardly on Sheldon’s bed, with Amy looking like she’s about to crack a joke about getting physical.
The final photo, above, is perhaps most symbolic of their relationship. Amy is happily grasping tightly onto Sheldon, while he semi-reluctantly returns her affectionate embrace.
Still, while the new living arrangements may require a brief adjustment period, there’s no need to worry that the experiment will alter the core dynamic of the show. “At the end of the day, as long as those people are gathered in that living room to hang out and eat dinner, I think it will always be the show,” Molaro told Entertainment Weekly.
As The Big Bang Theory fans already know, Amy and Sheldon have done a lot to take their relationship to the next level over the last couple of seasons. Season 9 marked the first introduction of Amy to Sheldon’s beloved Meemaw, as well as the first time that the longtime couple slept together. Whether moving in together will be their next official milestone remains to be seen, but this shift could be a good way for the two to test the waters.
“The Cohabitation Experimentation” episode airs on October 10 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. The Big Bang Theory Season 10 will retain its Monday night time slot, before switching to Thursday nights following the conclusion of Thursday Night Football on October 27.
