Last season of The Big Bang Theory left open so many interesting opportunities for new story lines. Leonard and Penny have finally made the move and eloped, Howard is going to have to adjust to fatherhood, and Sheldon and Amy have also moved forward in their relationship by having sex.
We have already predicted what will happen in Season 10, but for those who are hardcore Sheldon and Amy fans we decided to look closer into what their future could look like. So what’s next for the happy couple?
Throughout their relationship, Sheldon and Amy have taken things at their own pace. Just last season they had sex for the first time. Although it’s a big step in their relationship it doesn’t necessarily mean you will feel the change in every episode.
“The [writers] are doing one thing after another to keep that relationship advancing without shoving it into the future.” Entertainment Weekly reported Jim Parsons (Sheldon) saying, ” This is one of those things that doesn’t necessarily change anything from a viewers’ perspective on a day-to-day basis of watching the show, but in a subconscious way and from the groundwork of the show in general, it adds a layer of something between them.”
So the characters we have known and loved since the third season will be different together whether it’s explicit or not. Possibly because we got a Penny and Leonard elopement last season, some have come up with the theory that the couple will be next to walk down the aisle! However these fans will probably be disappointed.
Part of this rumor was that the 10th season could be the show’s last. But when asked if that’s the case, showrunner Steve Molaro said in a statement “I don’t know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can.”
Also we know that next season will include a more formal wedding for Penny and Leonard. This is because Penny promises Leonard’s mother another ceremony. It has also been announced that this event will include more supporting characters like Penny’s mother, Susan. Chances are the show won’t squeeze two important weddings into one season if it’s not its last.
One rumor that is more likely going to happen is that Sheldon and Amy will move-in together. [Update, 10/4/16: As revealed in Season 10, Episode 3, Amy and Sheldon will be moving in together (albeit, temporarily).] This would be huge for the characters themselves. But it would also be a stepping stone for the series because the living arrangements have been a big part of of the show. However, one cast member has also said she can see this change happening.
“Yes, I do think so,” Mayim Bialik (Amy) answered when asked if she thinks Amy and Sheldon will ever shack up. “But how do you literally split apart those two guys who live in that apartment that’s so central to that show? I’m just being unimaginative here, I’m sure the writers can do it, but I don’t understand how. How do we get out of that apartment? Maybe Amy moves in.”
Not only can the actress see it happening, but many cards have been put in place for it to actually happen. Back in Season 9, Penny and Leonard got married so of course they were talking about moving in together. Sheldon shot the idea down because he wanted to keep Leonard as his roommate. This upcoming season however is possibly all about accepting change.
We have Howard and Bernadette expecting a baby which will undoubtedly be a big change. We have Penny and Leonard starting to navigate married life which probably lead to changes in their relationship. Although Sheldon is slower at adapting to change, everyone around him will be doing so therefore he would have no choice but to do the same.
Of course this couple’s living arrangement will probably look very different compared to “the norm.” Sheldon has made it clear that he has no interest in sharing a bed or having sex that often. But that just means Amy might be getting her own room in the apartment.
Now there is also a possibility that Sheldon’s new roommate won’t be Amy. There is still Raj, who knows Sheldon well and is less tied down to a relationship. However, since the show is probably hoping to make these characters grow rather than regress, it looks like Amy is the more likely candidate.
So if you asks us, the couple will certainly stay steady in their relationship in the upcoming season. There might not be wedding bells in their imminent future, but maybe a moving truck. It should be interesting to see how the two will deal with their new potential living situation.
