‘Big Brother 21’: The Petition to Get Jack Matthews Kicked Off for Racist Comments May be Working
My, how things can change in just a week. When Big Brother season 21 first premiered, fans were enamored with Jack Matthews. His good looks and uncanny resemblance to Jason Momoa made him a fan favorite with the ladies.
But this week, fans have been gunning to get Matthews out due to some racist comments that he made on the live feed.
What did Matthews say?
Matthews has come full circle in regard to fans of the show. Last week, he was beloved and now he’s being called a racist. Which is a strange turn of events, because previously, it was Jackson Michie who was accused of racism after choosing to banish the only two African Americans in the house.
But this week, the heat has been taken off of Michie and put onto Matthews.
For some reason, Kemi Fakunle, the last African American in the house, has been Matthews’ target for a while and he has become increasingly aggressive about it.
“It’s like, b***h you’re fucking going up and you can play for your veto, but I’m gonna f**k you up,” he said about Fakunle to another houseguest. “God, dude, she gets me so hyped! I f**kin’ hate…”
The producers then cut Matthews off and switched to another camera before he could finish his sentence.
In addition to making hateful comments towards Fakunle, Mathews also commonly refers to the only Latina in the house, Jessica Milagros, as Consuela.
But none of these offenses have been as bad as when he said that he would “stomp a mudhole through [Kemi’s] chest.”
On July 1, a fan made a petition to get Matthews kicked out of the house.
“Jack Matthews has said numerous racist things and has been very aggressive towards the only black woman in the Big Brother house, including saying he wants to ‘stomp a mud hole through her chest.’ He needs to be expelled for Kemi’s safety and to show that it’s not okay to be racist in 2019, especially on tv,” the description of the petition read.
The petition has since garnered over 2,000 signatures.
What has happened since the petition was created?
While Matthews has yet to be kicked off the show for his comments, he has gotten in trouble for what he said.
According to Big Brother Network, Williams was spoken to by production for his comments.
“They’re taking it out of context,” Matthews said on the live feed, according to one watcher. “I just need to be careful what I say. … They (live feeders) saw it. It was production.”
At one point, Michie advised Matthews to just move forward from the comment.
“You can fix your mistake but you can’t take it back,” he told Matthews. “Just like I can’t take back the s**t I have done this season, you can’t take back the s**t that you have done or said. Just move forward.”
Viewers have also noticed that the disclaimer that says “the Houseguests may reveal prejudices and other beliefs that CBS does not condone” has also been shown more frequently on the live feed since the petition was created.
