Forget Season 3 of ‘Big Little Lies’: We Want to See a Renata Spinoff with Laura Dern

After watching HBO’s Big Little Lies Season 2, viewers agree that Laura Dern’s character, Renata Klein is the most aggressive yet hilarious woman on the show. While we love Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Meryl Streep, Dern’s character has much more depth, the potential for growth, and she keeps us laughing the entire time.

Let’s explore what a Renata spin-off would look like and why we would much rather watch that than another season of Big Little Lies

Renata was responsible for the most relatable — and hilarious — scenes of ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2

Jeffrey Nordling — who plays Renata’s husband, Gordon — best said what we were all thinking when he described Dern to Vanity Fair, “She has the rare ability—and I mean it—to play rage and heartbreak and have it be comedic.”

From her now-famous line, “I will NOT not be rich,” to her destroying Gordon’s train set with a baseball bat in the season 2 finale of Big Little Lies, we loved every single scene with Renata. The sheer volume of gifs and memes created from her lines might not be enough to prompt HBO to create a spin-off, but the viewer ratings should be.

Fans agree that they absolutely love Dern and her portrayal of Renata. “I cannot get enough of your character in Big Little Lies Season 2! Over the top! You’re hilarious. You seriously steal the show. Award-winning performance!” said one Instagram user in a comment to Dern.

The combination of the solid writing for her character and Dern’s excellent performance is enough to keep us coming back for more — an entire show devoted to Renata’s story arc would be epic.

Each of the Monterey Five’s storylines are resolved, except for Renata’s

There are a plethora of possibilities for Renata’s story in a spin-off whereas the other main characters have their conflicts resolved already.

At the conclusion of Big Little Lies Season 2, Madeline rekindles her marriage with a vow renewal, Celeste wins her custody battle to keep her children, and Jane falls in love. Although Bonnie realizes she does not love her husband, the fact that she finally faces her problems head-on is a breakthrough on its own.

Renata, on the other hand, has been stripped of all of her assets by her cheating husband. She has lost everything that she worked so hard for and promises to exact revenge on Gordon. This story arc has the potential for binge-worthy television.

This woman who came from poverty has once again been reduced to nothing. Her spin-off could revisit her past and how she overcame such circumstances. It could also explore how she picks herself back up and rebuilds. Of course, viewers would love to see how she follows through on payback towards her husband, too.

Although there are no set plans yet for a season 3 of Big Little Lies, Nicole Kidman recently hinted that she and costar Witherspoon are on board. We will just have to wait and see if HBO pulls the cast together again or takes fans’ suggestions for a Renata spin-off seriously.
