Though HBO hasn’t announced an exact release date for BLL, Nicole Kidman did find it in her heart throw fans of the series a bone. During CNN’s New Year’s Eve special, the Academy Award-winning actress told Andy Cohen, “It’s looking like June. I think June.”
Though it would have been more than two years since Season 1 of BLL first premiered, HBO president of programming, Casey Bloys said it wasn’t possible to get the second season out in 2018. After all the show was supposed to be a mini-series.
An exciting new addition
Along with Witherspoon, Kidman, and Woodley — Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz have also signed on for the sophomore season of Big Little Lies with Kidman and Witherspoon also coming back to executive produce the series. As EPs, the ladies will also receive a massive salary bump. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the duo will each bring in “around $1 million an episode” with the rest of the cast receiving significant pay raises as well. The acclaimed actress will star as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s character Perry Wright. Mary Louis arrives in Monterey in search of answers in light of Perry’s apparent death. Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty told The Daily Telegraph, “She deeply loved her son … as much as any mother can love her son. She had a slightly fraught relationship with her daughter-in-law, so it’s a very complicated, difficult time.”
Skarsgård is also set to return
Though it appeared that Skarsgård’s Perry died at the end of Season 1 –he actually might be alive and kicking. According to TV Line, “Skarsgard is expected to return in some capacity.” As the Golden Globe winner said of his characters at the 2018 ceremony, “I don’t even know if I’m really dead or not. I feel okay right now but we’ll see.”
During an appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the True Blood alum revealed, “I was on set, yes. I can’t disclose what I did on set. Maybe, I was acting. I might have been just moral support. I might have just made coffee for the ladies. I might have helped Meryl Streep with her acting… Not help, but just give her little pointers, fine tune it a bit.”
We have no idea what to expect from Big Little Lies Season 2, but we know we’re going to enjoy it. After all, it will be the final season of the hit series. The ladies will be saying goodbye for good once it wraps.
