‘Big Little Lies’: You Might Still Get to See Reese Witherspoon Throwing Ice Cream at Meryl Streep After All

Season two of Big Little Lies is in full force and fans can’t get enough of it. The storyline and the star-studded cast are more than enough to keep people coming back Sunday after Sunday.

But while fans are certainly loving Meryl Streep on the show, they noticed that one thing was missing from the season.

The ice cream scene.

What is the ice cream scene?

After it was announced that Streep would be joining the cast of the show, some still images of the season were released. One, in particular, showed Witherspoon’s character Madeline Martha Mackenzie, throwing an ice cream cone at Streep’s character, Mary Louise Wright.

But on Sunday night, the scene aired SANS ICE CREAM THROW!

How did fans react?

Obviously, fans did not take this so well. They had been waiting for months to see Witherspoon throw an ice cream cone at one of the most iconic actresses to ever grace us with her presence, just for the moment to be taken away.

“Me when they didn’t show Madeline throwing her ice cream at Mary Louise. I WAITED A DAMN YEAR FOR THAT SCENE,” one fan tweeted.

“My face when I realized the #BigLittleLies writers made Reese throw a whole a** ice cream cone at Meryl only for them to cut the shot,” another tweet read.

Some fans even wanted to revolt.

“Me leading the revolt for HBO to release the scene where Madeline throws the ice cream at Mary Louise,” one person commented.

“Are you kidding me. Are you f*cking KIDDING me,” another fan said. Did #BigLittleLiesfully film, and then DELETE, the iconic moment where Reese Witherspoon chucked an ice cream cone at Meryl Streep? I …………… don’t know who to turn to. I don’t know where to go. @HBO how could you.”

Witherspoon did take pity on one fan and responded when he wondered if she actually hit Streep with the cone.

“I am praying Reese pelts Meryl with that ice cream. #BigLittleLies,” the person tweeted.

“Oh Matt! No need to pray. I got her!” the actress wrote back.

Where can you see the scene?

Though the scene got cut out of the actual show, all is not lost. Fans who purchase the DVD of the season will get an extra treat.

“[Reese] just told me it’s not in the show!” Streep recently told Entertainment Tonight of the scene. “It’s [going to be] in the DVD extras.”

How has Witherspoon felt about acting opposite Streep?

Streep and Witherspoon’s characters have been at odds throughout the season, and for Witherspoon, acting opposite the iconic actress wasn’t the easiest thing to do.

“It was intimidating for sure,” Witherspoon told Entertainment Tonight. “I had to like, sometimes pull myself back and take a deep breath and go, ‘OK, she’s just a person, she’s just a human being.’ But it was a thrill, and to get to sit with her and talk about the script and work through scenes, it was just like, ‘Are you kidding me?'”

“As an actor, all my life, worshipping her work, and she’s just as truthful and honest and genuine and fun loving as you can imagine,” she said.
