2 sisters are abducted, which starts a search
Two teenage girls and sisters go missing, Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), when they’re kidnapped by a long-haul trucker, Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty), on a rural road in Montana. Danielle’s boyfriend, Justin (Gage Marsh), alerts his parents, Jenny Hoyt (Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe), an ex-cop and a private investigator. Along with Cody’s private investigator partner, Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), they search for the sisters.
But Jenny’s estranged husband, Cody, starts working with a corrupt state trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch), who is involved with the truck driver in a sex trafficking ring. When Cody gets suspicious that a long-haul trucker might be involved, Rick shoots and murders him. Jenny has yet to discover what’s happened to her missing husband, although Cassie is already suspicious of Rick and thinks he could be involved with the missing girls that have vanished in the area.
Meanwhile, Danielle and Grace are being held captive along with Jerry (Jesse James Keitel), who was kidnapped before them. In the latest episode, Grace manages to escape, but not for long. Rick finds her, killing an innocent man who tries to help, and shooting her with an arrow twice in the leg. He brings her back, hurt and most likely in need of medical assistance. Jenny and Cassie have yet to find them, but hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later.
Katheryn Winnick admits her character is ‘a little bit unhinged’
Jenny Hoyt is one of the interesting characters fans have come to know so far in the series. She’s forced to work with Cassie, her husband’s partner and apparent lover. It brings out a lot of emotions for Jenny in an already tense situation to locate her husband and the missing girls. She’s chasing down leads and searching for answers, and she isn’t letting up until she finds them.
Winnick recently spoke with Collider, and she was asked how she feels her character can be described by the people in the town where she lives, as well as how Jenny describes herself. Winnick didn’t hold back, and said that she is still “getting to know” the character herself. However, she says “she’s definitely someone that beats her own drum.” She also admits the character is “a little bit unhinged,” which is something fans are starting to see as the series progresses.
“She’s someone who’s an ex-cop that left the force, for whatever reason, and she’s trying to discover her new path at this point,” Winnick said. “She’s someone who’s not shy about really going after what she wants, even if it’s trying to get answers from her best friend. She’s definitely driven and impulsive, and even a little bit unhinged. She’s a woman that loves competition and is ready to get challenged, whether it’s a bar fight or trying to one-up her partner. She’s finding where her path is gonna lead her next and she’s definitely someone who the town will talk about. The entire town and Montana know who Jenny Hoyt is. How can you not?”
Will Jenny find out what happened to her husband? Will she and Cassie find the missing girls? Only time will tell, and there’s still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding ABC’s new series Big Sky.
