[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from ‘Big Sky’]
What’s ‘Big Sky’ about?
The new series involves the search for two missing sisters, Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), who were kidnapped by a long-haul trucker named Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty). Ronald is working with a corrupt state trooper named Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch), and they’re involved in a sex trafficking ring. The girls are being held captive along with Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel), who was kidnapped right before them.
Danielle’s boyfriend, Justin (Gage Marsh), gets his parents on the case, an ex-cop and a private investigator, Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe). Together along with Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), another private investigator and Cody’s partner, they work the case. But Cody is killed by Rick when he gets too close to uncovering the truth.
Jenny and Cassie frantically search for Danielle, Grace, Jerry, and Cody. At the same time, Grace makes an escape attempt, but Rick catches up to her and shoots her in the leg with an arrow twice. She’s in need of medical attention, and they try to use the situation to their advantage, but it hasn’t led to their escape just yet.
Here’s what to expect from season 1, episode 5
Episode 5 will air on Tuesday, December 15, and is called A Good Day to Die. Jenny and Cassie get closer to finding those who were abducted, and they’ll return to the property no longer in use by the Bureau of Land Management where Rick and Ronald were keeping Grace, Danielle, and Jerry captive. But will they find them?
Jerry will try to manipulate Ronald into letting them go, so we’ll have to see how that plays out, as previous attempts to manipulate their captors haven’t led anywhere good. Elsewhere, Cassie will have a talk with Rick’s wife, Merilee (Brooke Smith), so that will be interesting.
Here’s the official synopsis from ABC: “Jenny and Cassie feel as if they’re closing in on Legarski, but they are racing against the clock as he and Ronald are preparing to move Danielle, Grace, and Jerry. Jerrie makes one last attempt to convince Ronald to let them go. Elsewhere, Cassie visits Merilee to question her about her husband and Ronald aggressively confronts his mother.”
There’s a new promo trailer
In the promo trailer for the upcoming winter finale, there’s a lot of violence in the thirty-second clip. There’s a scene of Rick wailing a hammer down, but it’s unclear if it’s his wife or someone else who he targets.
In the next scene, Ronald talks to Grace, Danielle, and Jerry. “Today’s the first day of the rest of your life,” Ronald tells them.
Jenny and Cassie are still on the case and haven’t let up. Jenny tells Cassie, “We don’t let up for a second.” The trailer shows Cassie walking around the bar/store where she first encountered Rick, so it looks like they’re looking for clues or perhaps the missing girls there.
Ronald will attack his mother, Helen (Valerie Mahaffey), grabbing her by the throat. She’s already grown very suspicious of him and has even asked if he has anything to do with the missing girls. It’s unclear what will happen next between them.
Jenny and Cassie will finally discover where Danielle, Grace, and Jerry were being held, but do they make it in time to save them before they’re taken somewhere else? “This is it,” Cassie says. “It’s got to be.” The duo heads back to the property they checked previously, and this time they’ll bring reinforcements.
They will find and open the metal trailer attachment underground where Grace, Danielle, and Jerry were all being held. But it’s unclear if they’ll find them or if it will be empty. Ronald and Rick could have chosen to move them all, and Jenny and Cassie might have gotten there too late.
We’ll have to see how the winter finale of Big Sky plays out on Tuesday, December 15 on ABC at 10 p.m. E.S.T.
