‘BiP’: Dean Unglert Said He Was Convinced He Was Going to Marry Kristina Schulman
This last season of Bachelor in Paradise was one to remember. While Blake Horstmann seemed to be the most eligible single man on the beach at the beginning, his time at Stagecoach prior to the show appeared to ruin his chances at love. And even when he tried to capture Kristina Schulman’s heart toward the end, she realized she only had feelings of friendship toward him.
Schulman has found love via Bachelor Nation in the past, however. We can’t forget that on a previous season of Paradise, she was involved with Dean Unglert who’s now with Caelynn Miller-Keyes. Recently, Unglert spoke about his previous relationship with Schulman — and it appears that relationship was a lot more serious than anyone expected.
Dean Unglert was in a love triangle that involved Kristina Schulman
This past season of Paradise, Dean Unglert hit it off with Caelynn Miller-Keyes as soon as he arrived on the beach. They had their ups and downs after that, as Unglert was convinced their relationship would never work outside of the show. But after leaving Paradise without her, he returned to ask Miller-Keyes to leave with him — and they’ve been together ever since.
This might have been Unglert’s most successful on-screen relationship to date. In a previous season of the show, he took a liking to Kristina Schulman and even visited her in her hometown when filming took a hiatus. Their relationship took a turn with Danielle Lombard arrived on the beach, however. After Lombard asked Unglert out on a date and the two were caught kissing, Schulman wanted to know if Unglert was serious about herself or Lombard. Eventually, Schulman ended up leaving the beach after Unglert seemed to choose Lombard over her at a rose ceremony — and we now know Lombard and Unglert didn’t work out, either.
Unglert said he was in love with Schulman and thought he’d marry her
Despite the mess that occurred that season in Paradise, Unglert promises he had real and lasting feelings for Schulman. Us Weekly reports on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Schulman recently discussed her relationship with Unglert and explained they rekindled their romance after that season of Paradise. “Following [that season of] Paradise, for that following year, Dean and I tried still seeing each other. That was very insightful. I learned a lot from that relationship,” she said.
As for Unglert, he also went on the same podcast and discussed his romance with Schulman. “I liked Kristina a lot, it’s just we were so incompatible … in every aspect of who we are as individuals,” Unglert said. “I was genuinely in love with her, it just is one of those things that didn’t work out. There were times where I was convinced that she was going to be my wife, we were going to have a future together, have kids, and all that kind of stuff and then as time progressed and things moved on, we began to, like, show each other sides of ourselves that we hadn’t seen ….”
Unglert’s confession surprised Schulman
It seems Unglert’s confession of love surprised Schulman. When she was on the podcast, Us Weekly notes the hosts, Ali Fedotowsky and Rachel Lindsay, told Schulman what Unglert said. To that, Schulman said, “We’ve never said it to each other. I didn’t know. It was never verbalized but the feeling was mutual.”
Despite the mutual feelings of the past, it’s clear both Schulman and Unglert have moved on completely with no hard feelings. And we can’t forget that Schulman even extended an olive branch to Caelynn Miller-Keyes in Paradise when Miller-Keyes chose to leave with Unglert. It’s clear the happy couple’s still going strong. And while Schulman may currently remain single, she’s come out of her failed relationships stronger than ever.
