Bachelor fans first met Dylan Barbour on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette. He was by no means among the final men competing for Brown’s heart, but he was around long enough for audiences to start to get to know him. He seemed sweet, funny, and like he really got along with pretty much all of the other men in the mansion.
When the show began airing, fans were delighted that he’d respond to their tweets at him and sometimes their comments on his Instagram page.
Dylan Barbour becomes reality TV famous
When he joined the cast of Bachelor In Paradise, Barbour’s reality TV stardom was taken to another level. From the get-go he made it very clear that he was set out to win over one woman and one woman only: Hannah Godwin.
He told Extra that he’d been sold since their first conversation:
“I think it was our first conversation. I thought she was gonna be someone else and I was hesitant. I talked to other people when I got to the beach. I talked to everyone for like five minutes and I was like ‘I’m not gonna be laser-focused.’ And then I talked to her and it was over for me from that point. She just completely caught me off guard. I think a lot of people don’t know just how funny she is and how sweet and caring she is about everybody around her. Yeah, I was just all-in from the second I met her.”
When he and Godwin got engaged, his popularity skyrocketed.
Dylan Barbour still responds to his fans–maybe because he doesn’t think of them as fans, just people
Barbour responds to kind comments, comments that are begging him to respond, comments that are asking him where he got that jacket from, comments that are dragging him or his relationship with Godwin–he’s an equal opportunity responder. Mostly he’s joking, sometimes he’s sincere, but there’s no doubt that Barbour makes a point to respond to his fans and haters alike. He just, responds.
On a recent photo Barbour posted, a fan commented: “Why does her smile look like “oh god I just wanted to be famous and now I’m engaged and idk how to get out of this[?]””
Barbour agreed. “it so does!!!” he wrote.
“Still can’t believe it so sweet,” wrote another fan on the same photo along with a series of hearts.
Barbour responded with four red hearts.
Sometimes, when a Bachelor In Paradise fan writes a negative comment, Barbour’s responding inspires them to change their tune.
“You look like how the chick would look in couple photos,” wrote one Instagram user in response to the same post.
“and?” wrote Barbour.
“and it’s adorable,” wrote the user.
Fans love that Barbour responds to their comments–it’s fun, unusual, exciting.
Most members of Bachelor Nation gain a flurry of new followers upon their reality TV debut and then go on to seldom acknowledge the fact that they’ve gained fans.
But Barbour seems to be immune to his reality TV fame. As if he responds to people who @ him because, well, it’s just the polite, or, normal thing to do.
