‘Black Lightning’: Is Brandon A Markovian Superhero?
In the world of Black Lightning, there are many different heroes and villains. Jefferson Pierce, also known as Black Lightning, and his daughters Anissa/Thunder and Jennifer/Lightning are good examples of heroes. Much has been made of the villainy of the nation of Markovia, and they’re finally starting to act like the villains they’re supposed to be. Yet surely they’re not all bad.
There could even be heroes among them. And one of them could possibly be Brandon. Find out more, ahead.
Who is Brandon in ‘Black Lightning’?
Before discussing if he is a superhero, it’s important to have an understanding of who Brandon is as a character. Brandon was introduced when he was looking for Jennifer to give him a tour of his new school. She ended up giving him a rather unconventional one, reminiscing about all the strange things that have gone on at the school.
The two end up becoming somewhat friendly and when Jennifer’s powers are acting up in Black Lightning season 3 episode 5, she asks to borrow his jacket. He gives it to her and later stops her from intervening when the A.S.A. soldiers are beating up her father. He manages to absorb her powers without any negative effects.
In Black Lightning season 3 episode 6, Jennifer is curious about Brandon and so she uses her powers to break into his apartment and look on his computer. She finds pictures of her mother and wonders why he has them. The two metahumans end up fighting, but eventually, they both calm down. Brandon then explains that he came to Freeland to find Doctor Jace and that Jennifer’s mother is his only lead.
He wants to find Doctor Jace because she killed his mother and therefore he wants revenge. So perhaps not your typical superhero if he is one. However, he does have superpowers.
What are Brandon’s powers?
Brandon’s powers are connected to the Earth. He is not only able to absorb Jennifer’s powers without anything bad happening, he has some pretty good abilities of his own. For example, he can transform coal into diamonds.
It also seems that he can hold his own in a fight, even against other metahumans, if his short battle with Jennifer is any indication. He could be useful in the war against Markovia, especially if he is Markovian himself. But how could he be Markovian? Well, he did show up in Freeland around the same time the Markovians did.
Yet he doesn’t seem to be evil, like Markovians in Black Lightning are supposed to be, according to Agent Odell anyway. Is it possible that there is a Markovian superhero? Definitely, but is it Brandon? Well, it could be.
Who could Brandon be?
According to Meaww, Brandon could be the show’s version of Brion Markov, also known as Geo-Force. Apparently, Brandon and Brion/Geo-Force have similar powers and both have something against Doctor Jace. So there’s definitely the possibility that this is Black Lightning‘s take on the comic book character.
Or he could just be exactly what he seems: a young metahuman who happens to have earth-based powers and a grudge against Doctor Jace. Though it would be very interesting to see him become a superhero, especially if he is, as Brion/Geo-Force is in the comics, the prince of Markovia. This would be an interesting twist for the show to explore and would make the Markovians more dynamic as characters.
