BLACKPINK will release an album in October

BLACKPINK’s first Korean studio album, Blackpink: The Album, will be released on Oct. 2, 2020. Leading up to the album’s release, the K-pop group released the single “How You Like That” on June 26, 2020. “Ice Cream” is the group’s second pre-release single.

In an interview with Apple Music, the group revealed that they have been working on their upcoming album for the past eight months.

“I think it’s made us more focused into completing the album and making it the best thing we can give to our fans, and perfecting it and everything,” Rosé said of the album. “And so, I feel like this album could get a lot of light and energy to everybody that’s you know stuck at home not knowing what to do hopefully this can cheer them up.”

Rosé also explained the band’s album-making process during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We were talking to our producer the other day, and he was like, ‘We’re on such a roll right now that we feel like even after, we’re almost at the final stages of completing the album, and we were actually talking about how we should keep this on a roll,'” she said. “Every single day, even if we have different schedules, we finish our schedule and be at the studio. And because, this doesn’t happen every day, where we’re literally working and producing and recording mode.”

How the collaboration with Selena Gomez came to be

BLACKPINK first announced their new single back in July 2020 with a teaser poster that showed Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and a question mark hinting at the surprise collaboration. It was later announced that Gomez was the surprise collaborator and the song would drop on Aug. 28.

“We’ve been aware of her for a very long time,” Jennie told Apple Music. “And luckily when this song came out on song cam we had the idea to have Selena on it, because we obviously knew she would fit into it right away. And yeah, it happened very naturally.”

What fans think of ‘Ice Cream’

“Ice Cream” is a fun summer track, and the music video features bright colors, dessert imagery, and flirty choreography. While this summer has not been the summer many hoped for, “Ice Cream” is a great distraction for fans of BLACKPINK and Gomez.

One Reddit user wrote, “i loved it. i was waiting for them to do a concept similar to aityl for sooo long. the lyrics are catchy and selena really sounded amazing with the members. its the first time i like a blackpink song from the first listen i was so surprised!!”

“it’s exactly what i thought it was gonna be: cute, boppy fun and catchy! really loved the girls vocals in this one and lisa’s 2nd rap verse was good,” wrote another Reddit user.
