Blake Shelton Gave John Legend Advice on Getting Hate Comments for Sexiest Man Alive Title

The Voice is on a good streak with coaches getting the title of Sexiest Man Alive. Adam Levine got it before, then there was Blake Shelton.

Now it’s John Legend’s year to shine. Find out what advice Shelton gave to Legend when it comes to dealing with hate comments and more.

The country singer had a big announcement during the Live Top 20 Eliminations of The Voice. He started by talking about being a former title holder himself.

“Carson [Daly], as you may remember I was 2017 People’s magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive and because of that it is my duty to formally introduce the next Sexiest Man Alive,” he said. “And it just so happens to be here tonight! Ladies and gentleman, the man, the myth, the legend, 2019 People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, John Legend.”

Shelton pointed at Legend who was sitting next to him. He also presented him with jean shorts that had the letters “VEGOTSMA” on it. The letters represent his awards including the one for The Voice and now Sexiest Man Alive.

Legend responded by saying he learned a lot from his fellow coach. “I want to thank People of course, People magazine. But mostly I want to thank Blake Shelton because I sat next to him for the last few months and I learned his sexy ways,” he said.

The singer continued, “I observed every move he made, ever utterance that came from his mouth, and I think some of it rubbed off on me. And I think that has everything to do with why we’re here today.”

The announcement has gotten some backlash

Every year the man chosen for Sexiest Man Alive gets a lot of reactions. There have been some people who don’t agree with Legend being picked.

One person who isn’t afraid to defend him is his wife, Chrissy Teigen. There was one person who tweeted, “Wholeheartedly disagree. Highly doubt he could throw me over his shoulder when needed, or defend me better than I can.” The cook responded with, “can I try to throw you.”

Teigen also has a sense of humor over the whole thing. Legend tweeted a picture of Idris Elba then an old picture of himself side by side. He wrote in the caption, “1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 @IdrisElba as #SexiestManAlive Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you @People for finding me sexy. I’ll take it.”

She tweeted back, “yeah but let’s see an @idriselba pic from 1995 (prob still very hot).”

Shelton told Legend to avoid social media

The country singer got a lot of flack when he got the title in 2017. So it’s not a surprise that he gave advice to Legend on how to deal with backlash.

“I’m the one that broke the news to him on The Voice as a former sexy guy,” Shelton told Entertainment Tonight. “I told him afterwards, I said, ‘Hey man, listen. After this announcement comes out, wait about two weeks before you look at social media. Because everybody that ever hated you is gonna have something to say about it.'”

It’s obvious that Legend isn’t staying away from social media. But it seems like he also has a sense of humor about the whole thing.
