Blake Shelton Says His New Song with Gwen Stefani Shows Where He Is in His Life
The coaches of The Voice aren’t just busy mentoring contestants. They are still busy working on their own music. Kelly Clarkson and John Legend recently released their own cover of “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”
Now Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are releasing another duet. Find out what Shelton had to say about it and more.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani used to not be familiar with each other’s music
It sounds like the singers were perfect strangers before The Voice. Shelton revealed he realized one song Stefani sang pretty late.
“I didn’t think I knew much of her music until you go to one of her shows,” Shelton said on Late Night With Seth Meyers. He said one day he was driving and listening to the radio when No Doubt’s “It’s My Life” came on. That’s when he recognized her voice.
“Holy hell, I didn’t know Gwen sang that song,” he admitted. The country singer then said, “I always known ‘Hey Baby’ I didn’t know she sang that freaking song.”
The couple previously released a Christmas duet
Stefani and Shelton released a duet called “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” last year. The country singer talked about how the song was changed along the way.
“I sent Gwen a couple of lines of the song. She took it and made the song what it is. I just sent her an idea,” he said, according to Entertainment Tonight. Shelton added, “She tries to say that I co-wrote it, but I just sang on it.”
The lyrics of the song talk about finding love. He answered whether the lyrics are about them. “I would like to think so, come on,” he said. “This is romance around here, of course!”
The song will reflect where he is in his life
The couple will have a new song together called “Nobody But You.” The country singer talked about his feelings about their new song when he first came across it in a press release, according to CMT.
“This was one of those songs where the more I heard it, the more I fell in love with it,” Shelton told E! News. “I also realized how important it is for me and where I am in my life, and I think that’s why [writer] Shane [McAnally] was trying to get it to me.”
He went on to praise the collaboration. “It fits my story. I was about to go in and record when I decided that it needed Gwen on it—because it is our song. I think it’s magic,” he said. Shelton went on to talk about the lyrics.
“The lyrics of that song are so on point, not just for me and Gwen, but I think for a lot of people,” he explained to Nashville Times. “The song is not a fairytale, but at the same time it’s the most epic, earth-rattling love song I’ve heard in a long time, because the lyrics are so honest and just say it how it is.” Shelton said the honesty is in how the two people feel about each other.
