‘Blue Bloods’: Could Amy Carlson Come Back as Linda Reagan for a Flashback?
The Reagan family and Blue Bloods fans are still reeling from Linda Reagan (Amy Carlson)’s death. A big reason for that is that her death wasn’t seen on the show so there is a lack of closure there. But could Amy Carlson come back to reprise her role in a flashback? Here is everything you need to know.
Amy Carlson said she’d come back to do a flashback
Fans were disappointed that Linda Reagan’s death happened off-screen in a helicopter crash. But the good news is that the show has picked her storyline back up with Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) having to discover what really happened to her. Does that mean Amy Carlson could come back? Well, the actress told Deadline she wasn’t happy with how her character was written off and is open to coming back.
“Yeah, I think it’s been hard on the fans,” Carlson said. “I never wanted it to end that way, so I feel sad for the fans because everyone wants closure, and I hear that a lot from the fans. So, of course, I’d be open to that. Sure.”
If Carlson does come back, then it is being kept under wraps. There are no new credits for Blue Bloods added to her IMDb page yet. So it’s up in the air of what is going to happen. The good news is that Carlson also revealed that she was keeping in touch with Donnie Wahlberg who played her husband on the show. “Oh, Donnie and I, we text,” she told Deadline “and we talk. Yeah, I talk to Donnie a lot.”

My heart is full of gratitude to each of you for your generous support of me and my character for the last seven years of Blue Bloods – Linda Reagan. I have been touched by your compassion and enthusiasm. I loved playing Linda: wife to Danny, mother to Jack and Sean, nurse and working mom. I’m proud of my contribution to building this series. I’m so grateful to CBS and the Blue Bloods cast and crew. Mostly, I am grateful to the fans who have supported me and the show. Peace, blessings and many ‘love you mores’ to all of you. Amy Carlson decided to leave Blue Bloods once her contract was up at Season 7. The departure might seem sudden to fans but it is seemingly amicable.
“My heart is full of gratitude to each of you for your generous support of me and my character for the last seven years of Blue Bloods – Linda Reagan,” she wrote in her statement on Instagram. “I’m so grateful to CBS and the Blue Bloods cast and crew. Mostly, I am grateful to the fans who have supported me and the show.”
Her co-stars also revealed that they were shocked by her departure. “I heard from my representation that they didn’t work out a deal,” Will Estes who plays Jamie Reagan told The Cheat Sheet. “So what I heard is that basically, creatively for her, personally, it was time for her to move on and so, you know, it was kind of a shock. Shock to the characters on the show and a shock to us personally as colleagues.”
Estes said that he’s a supporter of how Linda Reagan was written off the show. “But I think the show is dealing with it really well,” he continued. “We chose to write her out in a heroic way. I think ultimately we are telling a show about heroes, hopefully, flawed and real but heroes. So living as a hero and dying as a hero, actors dealing with that loss, and we’re all dealing with that loss as a family. It’s just become part of the storyline.”
So it’s not totally hopeless for another appearance by Amy Carlson on Blue Bloods. Fans will just have to wait and see if it comes up.
