‘Blue Bloods’: Do the Cast Members Use “The Blue Bloods Cookbook” Recipes?
The Reagan family dinners are what so many people love on Blue Bloods. It’s often the time where the characters can get advice from each other or resolve things over delicious food. So it makes sense that The Blue Bloods Cookbook exists, and it was co-written by Bridget Moynahan who plays Erin Reagan. But do the cast members really use recipes from the cookbook? Here is everything you need to know.
Some of the recipes are from the cast members themselves
The food on the show is often catered by restaurants, but the recipes in The Blue Bloods Cookbook is more personal than that. That means there are a few recipes that stand out from the others.
“Every cast member gave a recipe,” Moynahan told CBS. “What’s been nice about the cast is everyone’s very different in the way they eat. Will [Estes] is vegetarian. His recipe was completely different than everybody else’s… it’s much more of a meat-and-potatoes kind of cookbook. Tom Selleck’s wife provided a recipe for Shepherd’s Pie which was absolutely delicious. It’s nice to see what everybody grew up on.”
So what family recipe did co-author, Bridget Moynahan include in the cookbook? Swedish meatballs! “It’s something we all love and look forward to every year,” she told Yahoo. She said it’s so popular with her family that they make up to triple times the recipe so everyone can take leftovers home.
Moynahan revealed where she turned to in order to get family recipes for the book. “While I was gathering ideas for this cookbook, I used some of my mom’s hand-written recipe cards and realized that with my own family I have kept up many of her traditions,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “Although we’re not Swedish, every Christmas Eve we have Swedish meatballs and tons of side dishes.”
Although a lot of the recipes are family recipes, there are some that will look familiar to Blue Bloods fans. For example, there is the glazed ham!
The Blue Bloods cast have used the glazed ham recipe
A glazed ham is a popular family meal dish, especially around the holidays. So it’s probably not shocking that it is one of the recipes from The Blue Bloods Cookbook that the Reagan family has used on Blue Bloods.
“We had a glazed ham for dinner once which inspired the one for the book,” Bridget Moynahan said according to CBS. “It was blend of sweet and salty. The glazed ham was irresistibly crispy. We could not stop picking the crispy bits off in between takes.”
On the show, the food is made by caterers from different restaurants. But there are some recipes in the cookbook that the cast has used on the show. What is more interesting is that the cookbook is made up of family recipes from all the cast members so they are very familiar with them in real life.
