‘Blue Bloods’ Fans Are Over Seeing Jamie in Trouble

Married life between Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) has been mostly rewarding, if also fraught with a lot of arguing. They’ve also been facing other challenges related to their jobs at the NYPD. Mostly it comes down to Jamie being an unlucky one and frequently finding himself in trouble over criminal cases.

Fans aren’t very happy about that either. Placing Jamie in those situations also tests his marriage to Eddie so their relationship isn’t overly complacent.

How much is too much, though, in making a character constantly face trouble? Other shows have a tendency to go overboard in this department. Should there be a more medium balance between characters?

How many times has Jamie Reagan gotten into trouble on Blue Bloods?

The answer to this question is more than a few times. Most recently, it was due to his police vest being found on a perpetrator of a crime, placing Jamie in potential legal peril.

This isn’t the first time such a thing happened. At another time, Jamie was under investigation for failure to supervise, something he managed to worm his way out of eventually. However, he sometimes locks horns with his dad, Frank, over these matters.

At the same time, he’s known for wanting to stay as a beat cop rather than moving up to the role of detective. Frank has tried to get him to move on up, but Jamie seems to like the job he has, if ultimately becoming a sergeant.

Is him staying in this role the real reason he keeps getting into trouble? Should these investigations of him continue, it could place a further strain on his marriage to Eddie after already arguing about everything of late.

Having a character constantly face challenges isn’t unusual for TV nowadays when enhancing drama is a major goal to keep viewers compelled to tune in. Shonda Rhimes is known for doing this to her characters on shows like Grey’s Anatomy. Characters like Meredith Grey alone have gone through so much, it almost seems unrealistic to real life.

Then again, it’s not that real people don’t go through similar troubles. Even if it’s rare, there may also be cops like Jamie Reagan who constantly seem to be a target of investigations due to circumstance.

Fans aren’t dealing with his troubles too well, though. Perhaps the reason is they’re so used to seeing the love story with Eddie play out over the last six years. They also went through some turmoil together when working as partners for the NYPD.

A hostage situation they dealt with in a jewelry store once created some major tensions. How this latest incident with Jamie’s vest is going to play out, though, may test every viewer’s patience.

What happens if Jamie Reagan becomes accused of the crime?

While the above vest story had been concluded, this pattern of trouble could lead to other issues down the road with Jaime. What it means for Jamie is another thing and how it takes a toll on his marriage. They’ve already been on the edge lately, something not surprising considering the type of work they do.

Maybe this will finally convince Jamie to move up to the role of detective, something he’s already done to some degree without making it official. Fans on Reddit suggest it’s not unusual for a street cop/sergeant to stay in the same job indefinitely since it prevents having to be responsible for managing other officers.

Should Blue Bloods stay on the air for years more, Jamie may stay where he is and continue to face legal risks. He always manages to find a way to surmount his troubles one way or the other while testing the endurance of his marriage.

[Correction: An earlier version of this story said the vest plotline might continue through the end of the season. However, that storyline had been resolved in the referred-to episode.]
