‘Blue Bloods’: Fans Get Brutally Honest About the Show’s Flaws
Blue Bloods has become a weekly ritual for some viewers. They can’t wait to settle in and watch Jamie, Eddie, Frank, Danny, and the rest of the Reagans fight crime and then end the day with a hearty family dinner. However, some fans have a few complaints about the show. Here’s what some Blue Bloods fans on Reddit had to say about the show.
Some fans don’t think ‘Blue Bloods’ is realistic
One Blue Bloods viewer compared the show’s storylines to fairy tales. This fan doesn’t think the writers do a good job of creating stories that depict realistic situations. Consequently, the fan says it’s easy to see how an episode will end because there’s always a positive conclusion, with all the loose ends tied up once the show is over:
I’m not a cop, but I feel most of those shows have a good opportunity to tell really compelling stories. The problem is, they structure them like fairy tales every time. A plot point comes up, story unfolds a bit, a stumbling block, and then the victorious conclusion. You can see everything coming a mile away, so they’re kinda boring. They’d have an interesting story if things weren’t so cut and dry. Cops weren’t always perfect, cases don’t get resolved, old partners don’t stay in touch, etc. Leave some things open ended, have the main cast not be so perfect, keep it interesting.
Some fans don’t think the writing on ‘Blue Bloods’ is that great
Although some fans praise the writing on Blue Bloods, others feel there’s something missing. One Reddit user said the show isn’t very good, but it isn’t bad, either. If you’re wondering why this fan still watches the show, it’s because of the family aspect. Here’s what this Redditor posted:
I have watched it since day one and love it. It’s one of the few shows I still watch. For me, it’s like any other procedural show… nothing amazing but not awful. I was drawn to it because I loved the closeness of the family dynamic of everyone being in the “family business,” and the Sunday dinner thing.
I didn’t have that sense of “family” when growing up. I don’t remember sitting at the dinner table ever, really. I think the kid in me wishes I was a Reagan that lived in a nice home, with a nice family, and close siblings. They are also honest and have strong morals. I like that, but it’s not great acting/writing for sure.
Others say the ‘Blue Bloods’ family isn’t realistic
Some Blue Bloods viewers on Reddit feel the show isn’t real when it comes to depicting family. For them, the family aspect of the show is too syrupy and focused on feeling good. One fan said this is the biggest issue he has with the show. “My biggest Issue with the show is it’s too family feel good, when in reality it’s not. Even when they hit hard topics like an officer suicide, at the end of the episode it ends up with them having a nice Sunday dinner with smiles rainbows and ponies.”
