During an interview for CBS, Estes answered fan questions. One fan asked how the likes playing Jamie Reagan and if he would ever become a police officer in real life. Estes didn’t answer the second question, but he did talk about his love for the show:

I love playing Jamie Reagan. The most exciting part about this show, creatively, is learning about the police work. We have a wonderful technical advisor on the show, Jim Nuciforo, who was a detective, first grade on the NYPD, retired for 24 years… I love learning about all the cop stuff and what it really is to chase and catch bad guys.

The funny way Will Estes could spot a bad detective

Working on Blue Bloods as a police officer has given Estes some of the skills needed to pick up things others might not notice. During an interview with the hosts of The Chat, Estes shared a story about a humorous exchange he had with two New York City detectives. He said he was able to tell right away who the better detective was after interacting with them. Here’s what Estes said to The Chat hosts:

I was standing on the corner once near Times Square and two men came up in suits and I know because of what I studied on the show that they were detectives. And one of them said, ‘Let me ask you something. I want to ask you about something.’ I think he was asking something about the shoot, and the other [detective] said, ‘He’s not a police officer.’ And I was watching this happening, and this was them talking to each other. And he goes, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he goes, ‘The collar brass.’ Right here on the collar, on the show, we have a 12. And that means the twelfth precinct. There is no twelfth precinct. It’s kind of like 555 for a telephone number for a television show. And I immediately knew who the better detective was.

This is Will Estes’ favorite ‘Blue Bloods’ episode so far

As you would expect, Estes is a big fan of Blue Bloods. In his CBS interview, he said he has a few favorite episodes. However, there’s one episode that he likes the most so far. Estes said the liked the episode where the mystery surrounding the death of Jamie’s brother was resolved. “The biggest storyline for me personally was finding out the people who were responsible for my older brother’s death in the line of duty. The resolution of that storyline at the end of Season 2 was a cool episode for me. I don’t think I had a lot to do in that particular episode, but I love that storyline, so the conclusion of that was powerful for me personally.”
