‘Blue Bloods’: Why Bridget Moynahan Changed What She Ate During Those Dinner Scenes
Every episode of Blue Bloods shows the Reagan family having dinner together. The scenes have become the heart of the show, but there is a lot of work that goes into filming them.
Bridget Moynahan revealed how her approach in those scenes has changed over the years. Here is the bad choice she made when it came to eating and what she did to change it.
The cast really does eat while filming the dinner scenes
A lot of the time actors will just pretend to eat because they have to film multiple takes of a scene. Filming is still pretty long for Blue Bloods, but the actors have talked about really eating while working.
“Dinner scenes are long; they can be boring [to film] because you repeat the same dialogue and eat the same food—which gets pretty gamy—for eight hours,” Tom Selleck revealed to TV Insider. “But not only are the characters catching up with each other, but I’m catching up with my friends. Sometimes the director can’t get our attention between takes because we’re screwing around. We can get pretty silly by the end.”
Jim Lillis, the property master on Blue Bloods, also told The Virginian Plot what it’s like on set. “All the actors eat to varying degrees,” said Lillis. “Some are good at faking it. They are very good at making it look like they’re really enjoying a hearty dinner.”
Bridget Moynahan thinks people are fans of the dinner scenes for different reasons
The Reagan family dinner scenes are in every episode of Blue Bloods. It’s a nice time for the family members to talk about whatever is on their mind. That typically happens to be their job.
It might seem small, but fans love these scenes. Moynahan has a theory on why that’s the case.
“With the older generation it kind of brings back the memories of when they used to do that,” explained Moynahan to People. “And the younger generation is kind of yearning for that so it’s hitting everyone I think.”
She made the bad choice of eating mashed potatoes during the scenes
“I think the first couple of seasons I didn’t eat anything and then I moved into mashed potatoes, which was really bad,” Moynahan said. “So for a few years there, I was eating too many mashed potatoes for four hours.” She added, “I mean I just made bad choices for those couple years.”
The actress revealed that she had to make a healthier choice after that. “Now I’ve moved to the cucumbers,” she said.
The Reagan family does like to keep mashed potatoes on their dinner table, but it’s not something you should probably have that often. It sounds like the actors probably have made different choices over the years on the show. Moynahan is now one of those who chooses to eat during the scenes.
