Peter Chase made his first appearance in the episode “Friends in Higher Places.” He called in Erin (Bridget Moynahan) to ask her to run for her boss’ job as District Attorney.

“I don’t like your boss’ bent,” he told her. “He thinks accused criminals and their victims both have equal rights. They don’t have equal rights.”

This is technically her dream job, but she had a reason to hesitate before jumping at the opportunity. She was given the advice to wait a year to see what kind of mayor he’ll be and she listened.

Erin told him she will wait to make her decision for after he is sworn in. Chase told her, “The people I believe in, I don’t pave the way. I throw in as many obstacles as I can in the way. See if they got what I think they do.”

He asked Frank to replace Garrett

Chase also met with Frank (Tom Selleck) in the episode, “Grave Errors.” The mayor-elect shockingly wanted to replace one of the police commissioner’s men.

“I want you to make a personnel change,” said the politician. “I have a couple of recommendations for your new DCPI.”

Frank told him, “Garrett Moore (Gregory Jbara) is supremely fit for the job.” Chase responded with, “He’s smart, quick on his feet, well-liked by the press and all the city agencies.” However, he said his problem with Garrett is “He needs to be liked. He basks in being liked. He’s a Labrador retriever and you’re gonna need a pitbull.”

Later in the episode we find out Garrett was offered another job to go along with this plan. However, Frank fights to have him stay.

Fans are loving the new mayor

Fans are loving the new character although Chase is throwing multiple members of the Reagan family for a loop. They tweeted about their feelings after the latest episode.

One fan tweeted, “I loved it, especially where both ‘The Big Boss Man’, Frank, & Garrett let the mayor-elect know what time it is. That new mayor-elect is conniving as hell, but he does bring an interesting element into the show, as far as the relationship between him & Frank & Frank’s team.”

Another person wrote, “We are EXCEEDINGLY enjoying these new avenues with the Mayor and his Staff; One of the elements of the Series ‘Billions’ that was so fascinating was all the sophisticated maneuverings and cleverly insightful Characters in the political circles…these Mayor story arcs are better.”

It seems like fans are loving how intelligent the character is despite him using that against the family. Fans will have to keep watching to see if he’ll actually get anything he wants from the Reagans.
