Bob the Drag Queen, Trixie Mattel, and Other ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Alumni Who Landed Their Own Comedy Specials
The queens have returned. Thanks to Producer Entertainment Group and OUTtv, former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants, including Trixie Mattel, Bob the Drag Queen, and Katya Zamolodchikova, will be getting their own comedy specials and documentaries. Here’s what we know about the drag queens’ upcoming projects.
Alumni of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star in new comedy and documentary features, thanks to OUTtv
Good news for RuPaul’s Drag Race fans in Canada. Fans can watch comedy specials and documentary series’ regarding their favorite drag queens on OUTtv. In conjunction with Producer Entertainment Group, OUTtv is looking to highlight this moment in cultural history. These television specials will specifically highlight the success and hardships of successful Drag Race alumni.
“Drag, as an industry, has seen such explosive growth over the past few years, and we could not be happier to showcase the diverse talents of our clients in both the comedy specials and the documentary,” said Jacob Slane, a partner and talent manager at Producer Entertainment Group. “We are excited to once again be doing business with OUTtv, who has always been a supportive partner to drag artists and to our company.”

You know her from RuPaul’s Drag Race, American Horror Story, The Trixie and Katya Show, and UNHhhh. Now, Trixie Mattel stars in her own comedy special on OUTtv, entitled Trixie Mattel: Skinny Legend. This feature premieres on September 26, 2019.
“People always told me I could never pursue comedy: ‘You’re too thin, you’re too pretty, and too sexy!’” Trixie Mattel said in a statement for Entertainment Weekly. “This special is me proving all of them wrong.”
A documentary, entitled The Queens, will detail the lives of former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska 5000, Sharon Needles, and Katya Zamolodchikova. According to Entertainment Weekly, this special premieres Friday, September 13, 2019, at 10 pm ET/PT. Additionally, Bob the Drag Queen will also have a documentary special, with a premiere date that has yet to be announced.
This is not the first time ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ alumni made a documentary
Former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants created their own television series and films following their success on the reality show. Bianca Del Rio created her comedy film, Hurricane Bianca. Jinkx Monsoon produced and starred in their documentary, entitled Drag Becomes Him. Recently, Trixie Mattel premiered her documentary, Moving Parts, at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“I just watched Drag Becomes Him for the first time and it has honestly changed my perspective on a lot. It is such a beautiful, touching and intimate documentary. Jinkx has come such a long way since this was filmed,” said one Twitter user.
Trixie Mattel: Skinny Legend and The Queens premiere on OUTtv during September 2019. Other specials, including Katya Zamolodchikova: Help Me I’m Dying and Bob the Drag Queen: Crazy Black Lady currently do not have a premiere dates.
