Bob Weinstein May Be Forced out of The Weinstein Company Next
After Harvey Weinstein was forced out of The Weinstein Company, it looks like his brother Bob Weinstein may be the next to go.
The Weinstein Company has been in talks to be purchased by Colony Capital following its co-founder being accused of sexual harassment and assault by over 40 women, but TMZ is now quoting a Weinstein Company employee as saying that this purchase likely would not happen without Bob’s removal.
“One thing is certain,” the source says. “If there’s any chance for survival, Bob has to go.”
TMZ reports that if the purchase with Colony Capital goes through, Bob Weinstein will likely be pushed aside to run Dimension. This is a film label owned by The Weinstein Company that primarily releases horror and science-fiction films, with some of their releases including Piranha 3D, Apollo 18, and Scream 4. They are not nearly as influential as The Weinstein Company itself, which has released films like The King’s Speech and The Artist.
There was actually some talk that Bob Weinstein would need to leave The Weinstein Company even before he was accused of sexual harassment this week. On Tuesday, The Mist showrunner Amanda Segel told Variety that Bob Weinstein pursued her for months even after she made clear she was not interested in him romantically, and it got to the point that she says her lawyer had to intervene and she reached an agreement with the company where she would never have to be in the same room as Bob Weinstein. Bob Weinstein denies these allegations.
For months, I watched my friend Amanda go through this. It was unwanted. It was persistent. It was scary. And it was real. https://t.co/xH9Cm7oTRN

After it was reported that his brother has been paying off women whom he has sexually harassed and assaulted for decades, Bob Weinstein gave an in-depth interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which he distances himself from Harvey and calls him “depraved.”
“My brother has caused unconscionable suffering,” Bob Weinstein said. “As a father of three girls, I say this with every bone in my body — I am heartbroken for the women that he has harmed. I’m a fighter. For my entire adult life, I fought for the films I want to see the light of day. I have fought for my employees, who have dedicated their lives to achieving the vision of this company that me and my brother founded. But I cannot fight what is indefensible.”
Since then, some have been pushing back against Bob Weinstein’s implications that he did no wrong during this situation, especially Rose McGowan, one of Harvey Weinstein’s accusers. She has suggested on Twitter that Bob Weinstein was fully aware of his brothers actions, something he has repeatedly denied.

The sale of The Weinstein Company to Colony Capital may actually not even happen, though, as TMZ is also reporting that a review of the company’s books has unearthed “a horror story” and that Colony Capital is “no longer sure it makes sense.”
